Anyone ever swap over door key cylinders? I can't find anything about removing the locks in the service manual.

This will be fun - this auction car came with a, now, 10-month old Toyota 12v battery, which is now bad. I'm hoping the dealer will replace it for free, or prorate it. But, of course, I have no receipt. What are the chances?

I don't know whether Toyota pro-rates/guarantees its batteries (IIRC my original 12V was a Panasonic), but it's worth asking. You might get something back, and apply it toward the 12V lawn tractor battery from WallyWorld. I sure wouldn't pay dealer price for a 12V battery!

I've finally recognized the tune I keep trying to set this thread title to. "In Spanish, you're a gato in a sombrero."

The Toyota dealer batteries do have a pro rata warranty. A relative recently got a good break on a new one because of it.

So far, it looks like they're giving me a new one for free. I was lucky that the last owner had the battery installed by a Toyota service department in Minnesota. The dealer here was able to pull up the info to confirm when it was purchased. Otherwise, I would have needed the original receipt. The little sticker on the battery says 6/23. I bought the car at auction around Sept/Oct '23. The Service Advisor says it will be free, they just had to confirm that it's bad, so I've left it with her and supposed to pick up a new battery tomorrow. I'm gonna throw her a tip for working it.

Chap, there's a nice Gen1 for sale in Indiana. Can I keep it at your house until I can come get it?

Ok, I've put maybe 10m on the car and got a CEL for misfiring cylinder #1. Didn't see any issues with the plug or coil. Cleaned the MAF, put it back together, and no CEL so far.

For only having 95k miles, this engine is very dirty and rusty. Never lived in MN, but this is the 3rd car I've bought from there - all with lots of rust.

Here's a new one - when this car quit running on me coming home from the auction last winter, it was also do the steering wheel shaking thing. Now, I've got it running and have put maybe 50m on it, and it hasn't done that once. Before, it would shake almost every time when you first started out.

Why would it stop - car has not moved for 7 months? Do those "tin whiskers" disappear over time? The car didn't have batteries for several months, if that could explain it. I have one of my parts cars ready for the scrapyard except for removing the steering gear to fix this car. I haven't been looking forward to that job - looks like a PITA. Tempting to skip it - I need that space that parts car is in under the shade before summer gets here in another week or two.
