Low Rolling Resistance Tires

    Hello Everyone, and Happy New Year!!!

    I have been doing some research to identify what tires I am going to buy to replace my Good Year Integrity OEM's. I found an organization that produced a report on Low rolling Resistance Tires (LRR). I did a couple of searches here to see if anyone had posted any of this information, and found nothing. So I am going to post what I have found here as well as attempt to upload a pdf file I have that explains more than you probably want to know about tires.

    This report does not identify the sizes that apply to our favorite vehicles, but there is excellent information here none-the less.

    The projected fuel savings are $50 per year at $1.52/gallon (report is dated 2003), so more like $100 today. Not a whole lot of money over an entire year, but pretty good nonetheless that someone is thinking out these things. Thanks for the PDF.

    FWIW, I replaced my GY Integritys with Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires in 185/65R15 size, they are a little expensive but I think they are quieter, handle better and hopefully will save a little money in the long run. In the winter I use snow tires, so I can't comment on their snow handling characteristics.

    The Transportation Research Board got some of their data from Ecos consulting, who tested the tires for Green Seal. The TRB's data set is much more extensive than Green Seal's, unless you are looking for snow tires. Consumer Reports also tests for rolling resistance in most of their recent tire tests.

    A LRR tire that I'm using on our Prius and am extremely happy with is the Continental ContiProContact. http://priuschat.com/index.php?act=ST&...st&p=337746

    If I lived in San Diego, I'd consider a great LRR high performance summer tire, the Sumitomo HTR 200, which doesn't sacrifice or compromise low rolling resistance (for fuel efficiency) or wet or dry traction (for safety) for sow or mud traction that you may not need.

    I'm also running Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus in the stock size. I have been using them through the winter, and they are working well, although our winter has been milder than normal, so the real test is yet to come.

    I saw the quote here somewhere, and I KNEW a guy that made stickers. Since he like the sentimat of the saying, he made if for free. In fact he mad a couple of them and gave them to me. I think I have one left of the same size and two smaller ones. Think I should sell them? ;) ;)
