Here's a better pic for you:
It doesn't look like it's part of the terminal to me. At any rate, I'm glad I didn't try to replace the battery.
That would solve nothing, the obvious problem is excessive current draw.
That's the grounded terminal anyway. It's obviously measuring something inside.

I've made mistakes, but I admit them. I've yet to see you do that, much less apologize.

We all told you to have the dealer fix it. When you said that they wouldn't, I suggested that you replaced the battery yourself.

“It doesn't look like it's part of the terminal to me” (probably because it is the same color as the top of the battery) does not make it an integral part of the battery. And it is not. It is a separate $800 part. Many others have told you that. You did the same thing with your AGM claims. You never showed any remorse when you found out that you were wrong. You even made it sound like everyone else was still wrong even though you were wrong. You are doing the same thing here. You say you are here to learn about the technicalities, but when multiple people offer their help on well-known things to them, you say that only you know what is right and everyone else is wrong, and you turn threads like this into garbage by repeating your misconceptions and falsehoods over and over again.
The same current flows through either terminal because of Kirchhoff's current law. A grounded terminal does not make it a lesser terminal.

It measures the voltage, current, temperature, state of charge, state of health, and state of starting performance and performs a self-diagnosis.

You just don't seem to get the point. I don't know what it is, and I don't need to know what it is. The point is that I'm not getting a new battery; that would be stupid. The dealers have tested it to be within spec, so I'd be an idiot for buying a new one. The problem is excessive battery draw when it's parked. Toyota tech support told me that the wireless networking module is offline, so I need to see a dealer. Sounds like that may be why it's drawing too much power. I'll find out tomorrow.

But none of this seems to matter to you. You keep doubling down on thinking you're right, and I'm wrong for not listening to you. Thank goodness I didn't. You don't seem to know what you're doing.

I don't care (and no one else here does) what you do or you don't do with your battery. I never did. No one cares what anyone does with their battery.

I am only correcting your misconceptions and falsehoods that are turning these threads into garbage. You repeatedly said that the battery sensor was an integral part of the battery, molded into it. That was simply false, and I kept correcting it, along with @KMO, @Hammersmith, and @rjparker.

You also wanted to know what the battery sensor did, and I posted it. Now that you have finally realized that you were wrong, you are trying the turn the tables around just like you did with your AGM claims and make it sound like you and I and all the others were talking about something entirely different.

You constantly demand apology from everyone despite being wrong, but when you finally realize that you are wrong, you show no remorse and double down on your attitude and behavior.

I'm still at a total loss at how anyone could struggle to understand the parts diagram posted previously.

Maybe we need a beginners guide to parts diagrams. I'll have a go.

    1. The shapes in the parts diagram are parts
    2. The parts in the diagram look like the real parts to help you identify them.
    3. However, the real parts will all be different coloured, and won't have black outlines.
    4. The parts shown separately with different numbers are separate parts.
    5. Separate parts means they are not part of each other.
    6. This means they can be added and removed independently.
    7. Although it looks like they're not connected in the picture, they are actually connected in the car.
      1. (If they weren't connected, it wouldn't be a car, it would be a parts warehouse.)
    8. The dotted lines help show which parts go where when connected in the car.
    9. There are no dotted lines in the real car.
    10. You can disconnect separate parts even though they're connected now.
    11. Real parts won't float if you remove them - put them on a firm surface after removal.
    12. Unless you're in space.
Pro tip - if you're ever discussing parts, or wonder what a part is, why not look at a parts diagram? (y)

Don't worry about it. It's not relevant to the issue.
