Been looking for a new Prime. Dealer inventory has all been 0 as shown online. I was driving by my local dealer and saw 7-8 new Priuses stacked on the lot...

Turns out there is a sales stop, all units have been removed from online inventory until they can be sold. Dealers cannot sell the new prius until the latest recall is addressed sometime later this year. Something about the rear door switches short-circuiting.

If you're looking for a new one, get your name in at the dealer. They will NOT be hard to find. They'll be stacking up the next few months.

Also, these nice person clowns are still asking over MSRP for used 2023 models. Used, apparently, they can still sell without having the recall done.

There is local inventory in my part of Colorado at two different dealers, as well as sales pending. The 2024 Prius is still for sale.

My local dealership said they are not allowed to sell their used 2023 Prius. It’s a federal law that they can’t sell a vehicle that has an unresolved safety recall. There might be some Gen 5s out there that aren’t involved with the recall. I bumped into someone who told me her vin # was checked and it didn’t require the recall. Who knows.

I was responding to the person who said apparently used Gen 5s can be sold with the unresolved recall.

And if I was speaking to you then I would've quoted you, like this. As it turns out I was speaking to the author of the thread for posting information which is pretty much known by nearly the entire forum and most people who have looked into buying a prius ever since the sale stop was announced for the door issue. :) Thanks for playing though.

So you thought it was cool to post a pointless reply to a topic you considered pointless?
In my 30+yrs of using online forums if you don't quote someone else, your post applies to the most recent one in the thread - so a proper response would have quoted the OP. The onus was on YOU to clarify that since you weren't the first respondent - no reason to be rude to someone else when you're the one who failed to follow standard practice.

Besides which the OP wasn't making the point that there was a recall - it was an opinion of stock availability based on the recall.

Go to your bridge and come back when you have something useful/relevant to say.

Yep, when we ordered my wife's 2024 Corolla SE Hybrid AWD, salesman told us of the sales stop. He, even, had someone fly into town to pick up their Prius the day of the recall came out and, nope, NO Prius is allowed to leave the lot until they have a fix. Pretty sad...this will hurt the Prius sales bigly this year.

Really? I ended my post with “Who knows” and you respond “We know” but you were not referring to my post?

“Thanks for playing”? I don’t think so. Enough with the snarky boy attitude.

Of course it is not. It is official information.

However, almost all are in build phase. So, it looks like they have resolved the issue with sourcing the redesigned rear-door switches, but it will still take about a month or more for the new arrivals with the door-switch-problem corrected.

Wait, what? Where is there any news release of production being re-started? As far as I know production of Prius and Prius prime is still halted. If you have a news article saying otherwise, please link it

Wow, NOT good news from my Toyota Salesman:

"No good news yet. They don't have a fix in place, yet. We are being told 3rd quarter at the earliest."

A first fix (rather workaround) is in place (mentioned by @KMO) but I guess it will be only used for already delivered cars in Europe. Here they just deactivate the electric door openers in the back - takes 15min according to dealer.
Real fix will be applied later then.

Does that mean that the only way the rear doors can be opened is pressing that awkward thumb/finger sized mechanical button?

Yes, you'd have to press the mechanical button, if they pull the fuses out.

I've not seen any evidence that they're actually doing this, apart from one newspaper article.

You could pull the fuses out yourself, if you want that sort of annoyance.

They sent letters out to owners in Germany explaining the step.
