Good evening everyone today I went to get my wheel bearing in the front passenger side replaced for the third time bad batch of wheel bearings long story short previous mechanic who put the last bearing in wrecked the CV axle the ugggg needless to say I am done with that place! ..... The new mechanic replace the CV axle and wheel bearing. He also had to put in transmission fluid the in the transmission. It was not Toyota atf ws. It was 1 quart of Valvoline atf MaxLife multi-vehicle synthetic 3246 fluid.

My question is I'm not sure if he added a full-quart of that or if he just replaced what was lost. what I am wondering is if that is going to screw up my transmission I recently changed my transmission about ten thousand miles with 4 quarts of Toyota ATF WS. Do I need to change it again?

What scares me is this on a side note when I was backing it into the garage I've heard noise from underneath like the transmission or CV axle I don't know how to explain it but of course my mind goes to the worst. I love this car it is the best car that I've ever owned, I don't want it dying because of quart for less of not use toyota atf ws
    Thank you all! USER_SCOPED_TEMP_DATA_MSGR_PHOTO_FOR_UPLOAD_1625011589817_6815792611216098686.jpeg

There's no documentation of this being a problem, but not a good idea as there's electric motors inside the transmission and the Toyota trans fluid is designed for that. If i were you I'd go buy a gallon of Toyota trans fluid and take it back to the mechanic and say you did it wrong and I want you to do it right this time!

I don't think there was much fluid lost. You can ask him how much of that quart did he put in. If it was just a little to top off, I don't really think it would be an issue.

According to the Valvoline product information (PI) sheet for Valvoline MaxLife Multi-Vehicle Transmission Fluid (ATF), it is recommended for the following applications:

Toyota - All Models that use ATF D-I, ATF D-III, ATF T-III, ATF T-IV, ATF Type T, and ATF WS.
Hybrid - Toyota THSII/ Toyota Prius.

Take that for what it is worth.

Hope that is of some help.

In that case... Probably not reasonable to ask the mechanic to redo it with Toyota fluid...

Ton of Prius over at Bitog use that it works fine. Leave it alone you have bigger problems.

And Toyota trans fluid was not designed for a Prius it’s used in all Toyota
Vehicles and has been for many many years.

Just to sleep at night, I’d do another full drain and fill with Toyota spec fluid. Maybe overkill but who knows.

only thing: I doubt a slight top up with alternate fluid would immediately cause a noise; something else at play?

Sorry but that’s an after market cheapo axle. The factory joint is much more expensive. Many unhappy posters using after market joints it’s all chinese crap now. Especially on a Toyota.
If I was a mechanic I would not waste my time with that because customer will be right back complaining of noises. Then drive issues.
What would worry me is the axle shaft where it meets the differential must be a very high quality precision pinion. Lots of torque there. If not it will not last long and may damage the differential.

Good luck. Hope it behaves. Try to get a big piece of cardboard park on it and check it in the morning make sure it’s not leaking trans fluid. Pay attention to that.

I would now agree with that.

Since posting that, I came across further information and have change my opinion.
In this video the Professor concludes that it is not chemically possible for one fluid to be compatible with all the stated specifications.
