I just received my DICE unit for my 2005 w/ NAV & 6-disc in-dash CD changer (JBL system). I received 3 wire harnesses with the unit. I want to be sure I am doing this correctly.

Wire harness #1 is a "V" shape, with a large 12 pin female on the bottom of the "V", and smaller 12 pin ends at the top - one is male, and one female. I think that it is the male on this end that plugs into the radio. Am I correct? What, if anything, do I do with the small female? It appears that it will be unused.

Wire harness #2 is a long cable with a small black plug on one end, and a large 12 pin male plug (with a large 12 pin female connected by two wires, and the female is just kind of dangling off). It appears that I plug the large 12 pin male on this harness into the 12 pin female on harness #1. Am I right? What, if anything, do I do with the large 12-pin female that is connected by two wires? It appears to be unused. The smaller black plug at the other end obviously connects to the DICE unit itself. Correct?

Wire number 3 is the easy one - a DIN connector from the DICE unit to the iPod itself.

The unused ports on these other wires freak me out a bit. Am I correct in saying that they are simply unused?

Thank you for any help that anyone can provide. I am a complete moron when it comes to electronics, I guess.

Hi Brent. You are not a moron, you are absolutely correct, there are unused plugs and sockets with the DICE unit. Basically, it all plugs in only one way. Plug it in on your table to be sure before trying the install. I think the extra "top end" socket is if you have an XM Radio receiver which would daisy-chain into the radio through the DICE.

One plug goes into the radio. The other plug goes into the iPod. Everything else you can ignore.

Thank you Bill! I am going to try the install this weekend. It gives me a bit of confidence having read your reply. Thanks again and have a great New Year!

Well, I put the DICE in. No problems at all. I did the install into the lower glove compartment, and ran the wire through the small hole on the lower left (had to make the hole a bit larger to get the plug for the DICE unit through). Everything woks well, and it sounds good. Now I just have to get used to switching to virtual disc 2 to switch between playlists, and then back to virtual disc 1 to switch between songs. One thing that I noticed is that the "random" soft buttons on the MFD seem to have no effect when the iPod is playing. The FF and REW buttons work, but the "random" and "disc random" don't seem to do anything.
