Got my Prius v 5 in June and since then, there is the most obnoxious rattle coming from the back seat (passenger side). It's intermittent, depending on who's in the car with me. When I'm alone, it happens about 80% of the time. When my kids are in the car, it depends on which one and what seat they choose.
I've taken it to Toyota twice, and they're unable to detect the problem. I'm convinced that this is because the weight distribution is difficult to replicate.

It is seriously making me crazy and I'm ready to turn the car in and get another (NOT a Toyota).

Is anybody else having this issue? If you've resolved it, I'd love to be able to go to Toyota and tell them where to look since they can't figure it out.

Have you secured the seat belt using the handy clip in the side wall?

The HV battery cooling fan is also in that area. Has the dealer determined that a foreign object hasn't gotten in there?

Everything is secured, including the seat belt and clip. The dealer has not determined that a foreign object is in there (which is my guess) because they say they can't replicate the rattle and therefore can't diagnose the problem. When I go back I will mention the HV battery cooling fan.

I think they really need to disassemble the door and see if something is rolling around in there, but they won't until they can replicate the problem. I'm thinking I have to ask if they have a technician who weighs the same as I do (embarassing if there is one--I'm a normal sized female)

Being that the rear seats can slide forward and back maybe check that they are securely locked in position or try moving them a couple notches forward and see if that helps. I notice when you slide the rear seats all the way back they have to slide ahead just a tad to "lock" into position. All I can think of besides the battery fan being defective.

Sadly, the first thing i noticed coming from my previous Honda was the cheapness of the Toyota interior. Not a deal breaker for me but it was noticeable. Fit and finish was not to the same level. That said rattles are unacceptable on a new car. I'm 50,000km in with my v and still rattle free.

There is a narrow ‘tray’ between cargo area and seat backs. Expands when seats slide and tip forward and vice versa. Something has fallen into that tray and is rattling.
