Netting attachment won't stay in wall

Show it to me out of the wall I don't believe I've seen these on a generation 2 Prius this is a what year model Prius? 2010

 

I don't think I've ever seen those so you must have a touring model with the large spoiler and possibly the 16-in wheels That's the first of the generation twos I think You don't have the little coop with the trunk? That ended o three I thought

 

That's funny I've got an '04 '06 '07 08 and '09 here. But none have that netting option I do not have a full-blown tour here they seemingly are hard to find The tour has a spoiler that sticks out further and apparently generally had 16-in wheels or something along those lines

 

If it's a push-in fitting or something like that is probably got some pieces broken off on it that won't allow it to stay in the hole anymore It just pulls through but like I say I don't have any Prius with this I have a Chevy Volt with these in it but they screw in with a quarter-20 like machine thread screws stud on the end of it so when they go in they are in now I am looking at the '04 or '05 with the trunk panels out and there is a plastic bushing or something where something could have been threaded right through in that same spot where we're talking about but I don't have those panels anymore for this vehicle

 

Don't glue it just yet. That little slot in the picture would normally be used on a car to pop the cap off (with a flat blade screwdriver) to access the bolt underneath. If there is a bolt in there then it suggests the "socket" it screws into has broken.

Edit: just looked on our 2007, the nearest bolt is in the slot that holds the privacy screen. Bet that's an aftermarket cargo net anchor, or possibly an OEM one for a different car, and that it is just screwed into the plastic. It will hold up a net, but it won't sustain a lot of force.

 

I'm wondering if that's some sort of aftermarket accessory.

 

I don't see it listed in the factory business or the parts list but several manufacturers make similar and many cars came with so there's always that I don't know if that black fitting that's in her cars penetrating the lighter color plastic of the car or if it was just glued onto that or whether it was screwed into the car can't tell from here because all I see is a picture of it attached to the generation to plastic but I don't know how it's attached and you could rig up something there real nice very quickly You can get I have several hooks here that would work no problem I mean nice looking billet looking things and they make circular things that equal the old wheel being used to wind up a hose I make little billet things like that that screw to a flat surface and then you're loop end of the net drops over that the Chevy Volt has something that look like this.

 

Then that means you can probably order those pieces from amiyama or Toyoda and possibly other sources once we see the back of the little d-ring holder

 

My vote: Use the super glue as a last resort.
Yes, use a small screwdriver and "pop" the retainer's cap.
Does the retainer attach with a bolt/ screw or does it pressure fit with wings (on the retainer - so to say) or, what is termed, a fur tree?
Post a pic if you wish.
Again I would try to repair/ replace the failing part before super gluing.

Yes it's missing the top the tangs that hold it in place when you push down on that piece that's already pushed down that's got the point on it so to install it there would be these tangs around it you would push the little bulbous pointed piece forward or back it would stick up you would push it in the hole and then push everything in that piece would pop down and expand the little tangs and it holds it in to the plastic so you could glue them technically but you need to make sure you're using a glue that's compatible with the plastic I personally like barge cement I don't know if you can get it in small quantities anymore once it's glued up with that if it's the correct plastic and the correct glue You probably won't be pulling it apart the rest of your life with the car but you never know. There may be some better mounts All I know there are some but depends whether you're willing to put them on you'd have to undo the screws and the d-rings that are chrome and pull that back panel around and get the kind that use a quarter 20 machine screw in a nut but a washer on the back of it and once that's on that will be pretty much permanent The d-ring will be metal and it'll also have a channel around the circle so that if you wind up with a different net that has looped ends already built in it the net will literally drape over the channel in the circular piece that's you just installed so that's kind of a plus

 

Just in case Tombuk2's directions need some explanation/translation:

There might be clearance issues. Stick a bit of straight wire or a screwdriver through the hole in the plastic panel until it hits something solid. Pull it out and measure how much space there is behind it.

Push the plastic pin out of the middle of that mount.

Take the mount to a hardware store and buy a bolt that will fit into it, plus a washer and a lock nut so that it can be "permanently" attached to the panel, but not so long that it will hit the metal on the other side. Be sure the bolt head has enough clearance around it so that you can get a socket onto it. If you can't find one like that, look for one with an Allen key head. If all else fails, use one with a slot for a Philips or flat blade screwdriver. If the bolt head is too close in size to the hole then add a washer between it and the mount.

The plastic panel that this is attached to can be released to provide access to the back. See for instance this video:

up to about 2:40, and ignore everything he does to the passenger side and forward of the cargo mat.

Once the panel is pulled forward bolt the mount to the side panel. Be sure that you have oriented the D ring as you want it and tighten the bolt and lock washer. Just to be clear, from one side to the other (exploded image) you would have bolt, (washer), anchor, plastic panel, washer, lock nut. Make it tight but not so tight that it crushes the plastic panel.

The remainder of the flanges on the mount may be in the way. You might have to file those down, cut them off, or some equivalent so that they clear the washer.

Reassemble the trunk, and all done.

You might consider doing the passenger side at the same time. If this one broke, that one will too eventually.

Edit. Note that this panel was never intended to bear any significant load. Objects pushing on the cargo net could put enough force on the mount that it eventually breaks the panel. In this sense you are probably lucky that the flanges broke off rather than the panel.

 

Fairfax Toyota should have it or have it for you very quickly
