Bought a 2009 Prius with the 86110-47260 MFD. It did not work upon buying the car, however the side buttons lit up briefly on the drive home. Its been dead since. I figured as many have suggested to buy a unit off of ebay (exact PN) to resolve the issue. Just got the ebay unit in, plugged it in, and still, nothing. No lights, blank screen. Clock works. Steering wheel controls work. What troubleshooting steps can I take next? Ive inspected the fuses under the steering column and replaced them with ones from other parts of the car with no success. Short of taking it to a repair shop, what other rocks may lay unturned here? Thanks!

So what are you saying You can turn on the air conditioner and you can play the radio and change the stations same with the CD possibly You just have no picture on the screen or no display as you say but everything that works through the MFD is working this is a step above a base with a rear camera I'm guessing I don't know all the part numbers for the MFDs in my head. Usually they just plug up and work. You can even put a crappy base MFD in a car with a rear camera and it will all work the rear camera will just show up on the screen looking pretty poor but it works you can see and the screen is just poor resolution because it's a base with no camera but it will work so I'm not sure you're going to have to go through the troubleshooting steps it sounds like to find out why you're not getting possibly some power in the main plug or if you are then you just got unlucky and bought a bad MFD which is quite possible online because people think these things are gold I have no idea why I see people trying to sell them online for $200 It is hysterical I can go to junk yards and people's yards and find them and pay $25 for them $50 something even if it's 100 it's not two or three and that's just kind of unreasonable and then a lot of these parts I know people who go to junk yards just to rip this stuff out and put it on eBay for sale they have no idea if it works or anything they just write anything for the ad and that's that once they have your money well anyway.

Maybe you found out why it was removed from the donor car.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, all features you mentioned work. Just the MFD seems to not be getting power. Though the clock on the MFD is. And yes, I thought it was a possibility that the unit was just bad, but the seller seems to have a good track record. Still possible. Is it possible to bench test/hook this up to an external power source?

If you pull the MFD back out and unplug it you should be able to probe the MFD plug and pins whatever and so forth is supposed to have 12 volts You may be able to get a diagram of this pin and the voltages need to be seen on what pins or wires generally online unless you have access to the manual which is very nice. But with the MFD unplugged I don't think all those things will work off the buttons etc but I've never tried it usually when you can't see the MFD there's a screen problem I don't know that much about screens in general to know even where to start troubleshooting usually black screens on a television LED OLED etc indicate you're getting another television they don't fix them apparently unless it's like a power supply or something like that but if the TV's on and you're hearing voices and no screen usually you're getting the new TV I would imagine these MFD screens are similar.

Is it possible that the car when you originally bought used did not have the proper MFD in place in the first place? Meaning the previous owner replaced it with a non compatible part?

Second thing to check since you now have 2 MFD, do they function the same? Meaning, do steering controls, clock and AC work on both units? Or do thing that don't work also don't work on both units?

If you have the four button setup pretty much all of the MFDs will work the base model MFD will have really crappy picture if you pair it to a car that has a backup camera ask me how I know but other than that they all work I've interchanged the base with the touring model with a backup camera and so on and so forth and as far as I can remember they all worked It's just the base model will show the backup camera in the worst possible light literally right now I have mismatched MFDs and two of the four generation twos I have and they work fine as far as I know unless something was going on that I completely don't know about but.

Thank you for the feedback. All great conversations. Addressing some things:

-the original unit, based on research and my understanding is correct. That is, it is a 86110-4260 which is what can be expected from a 2009, w/ JBL/NAV/Backup Camera.

-the original unit, on the drive home, actually had the side buttons light up green for a moment, meaning power was at least intermittently being provided. That, or the more likely situation, that the unit itself is finicky, and the power supply is fine.

-second unit did boot up the toyota loading screen for a brief moment after several car restarts. However, it was weak, and faded into white, and stayed white/blank. This aligns with other reports of faulty UNITS, again making me think this is a UNIT issue, not the plug.

Ive since returned the second unit, and have purchased another unit with pictures of it booted up, displaying properly. Will report when I get that installed.

I discovered there was still power to the harness so i isolated the issue to the MFD unit itself. I returned the item and ordered a new one, and it worked. Thank you
