It's happened before. When I start the car, and there is no Android Auto running, it's usually because my smartphone failed to connect. It's usually a matter of trying it again, and sometimes I even need to do a smartphone reboot.

No such luck this time. I tried everything, but it simply would not connect. I had to remove my phone from the system and reconnect it again as a new phone. Now it's listed on my screen as "primary phone," for some reason.

I don't know what caused it, but I recently tethered my phone to a DJI drone controller to access Google Maps. The two incidents may not be related, but who knows?

I've had AA connection issues from time to time, but it's always been fixed with a head unit reboot (holding the power button down for several seconds).

On a semi-unrelated note, I have had the wireless charger refuse to power my phone until I shut off and restarted the car. Pressing the power on/off button on the charger and moving the phone around in the holder did nothing.

Yea, I have the issue randomly too. Mostly on wireless, but even sometimes wired! If wireless I just go to the Connections menu and re-select AA and that restores the connection 90% of the time. If wired, disconnecting and reconnecting works. That's harder to do while driving!

I have no idea if it is the car or phone as this is the only car I have with any connectivity. It's infrequent enough its tolerable. I haven't had the issue where I have had to completely re-pair except for a 12V battery replacement and a botched app update.

Make sure you are selecting your Toyota when turning Bluetooth on. The only time I get lost connection is when I just turn Bluetooth on and don't choose Toyota when the prompt pops up. If you leave Bluetooth on all the time, you may only have to do this once. I turn mine off when I'm not using it. It's a major battery drain.

@Preebee : Interesting point. Alas I have BT on all the time, mostly for my fitness tracker and earbuds, but occasionally for a whole host of other toys. My wifes Gen3 has BT as well and yea, we purposely only pair our phones to our own cars! :)

I have connection issues with Apple CarPlay because my home wi-fi reaches my driveway. So the phone won’t connect to 5G until I drive down the road a little bit. Then I get the retry notice on the screen. It’s annoying but a “first world problem”
