Hi everyone! I recently purchased a 2008 Toyota Prius Standard 2 days ago. Now the check engine light is on. It is throwing 2 codes : P1116 & P1121. I replaced the Coolant Temperature Sensor and checked the codes again and the P1116 went away. I went ahead and ordered the Heater Control Valve to hopefully make the P1121 go away. However, after driving for about 10 minutes, I decided to check again when I got home and the P1116 is back! Has anyone else had these issues and if so what fixed it???

P1121 is almost always a fault with the "3-way" coolant control valve. Very common failure on these cars. Generally recommend getting a new part from Toyota as aftermarket parts can be less reliable.

P1116 is for the Coolant Heat Storage tank temperature sensor that is located on the bottom of the tank in thr Left Front fender (it is NOT for the engine).

My process for these codes would be to replace the coolant valve. Then use a capable scantool that can get "Prius specific" data from the ECM to see what the CHS temperature is doing. The sensor, coolant valve, CHS tank, and CHS pump all have to be confirmed as working normally to resolve this code.

    ***UPDATE***
As of today I have changed the temp sensor and coolant control valve. After replacing these, I let the car run for a few and topped up the Coolant to make sure everything was where it needed to be. Once that was done, I cleared the codes and took the car for about a 45 minute test drive. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT This forum was a literal life saver!!!!
