    Hello all!

First of all, I’m a big fan of this forum. When I bought my used V you all helped me find, diagnose, and get the correct part for my brake booster - all by searching through old threads - many thanks!

Now for today’s issue: with the climate system on (does not matter it ac is on) I hear a squealing/ sand shifting noise when I make hard left turns.

At first I thought “wheel bearing” to the point of finding tutorials and getting ready to order parts but I just experimented and the noise goes away when the climate system is off. (Still some squeaking and I’ll probably end up doing the bearing but not soon.)

I took a video but I’m having a hard time making it small enough to attach.

Any hints or advice on what to check would be greatly appreciated!

Hard squealing on left turn only with AC? That’s a new one but I guess it could be the blower in the dash if you have a mouse condo in there. Remove the cabin filter from the door in the glove box (owners manual for instructions) and check. No belts on the electric AC compressor.

For videos it’s best to post them to YouTube using your YouTube id, make them public and then post a link here.

If you have an Apple phone you can select the video in “photos,” use the “share” button then “copy iCloud link”. Post that one.

Typical winter day in Central Texas. Who let the Freon out?

Well, the iCloud link works but my account is too young to post links (4 posts required ... if this conversation goes on I might just get to post a link!)

It is distinctly coming from the passenger side. Which again is why I was thinking wheel bearing before I found out about the climate control triggering it.

I will be popping open the cabin filter in the morning.

    Thanks for the tip!

I found a handful of debris when I pulled the filter. Is there a way to get at the vents to clean them out?

The car sat at dealerships from Oct - January last winter so there is a high likelihood that it was a nice spot for a mouse house. Still weird that it only does it when I turn hard left.

Take the dash out. But there is a blower under the filter so keep cleaning through the slot.

    Mystery solved! (partially)

I pulled the blower motor and there was no debris. Pulled the filter too. Nothing new.

Went for a short drive (what could it hurt?) and on the first hard left a deluge dumped out of the blower motor's hole.

I guess my A/C has been making ice and it has been getting caught in the motor (which works fine). I suppose my system is not correctly charged. It is all melted and hopefully drying.

    Thanks again for the tips.

There's a drain tube that starts below the evaporator and runs through a hole in the floor to drain outside on the ground.

Sounds like that has gotten clogged up.

Sometimes it can be cleaned out by finding where it comes through under the car, and running something up it.

Toyota also released a TSB (I don't have the number offhand) for some areas where insects would nest in the drain tube and block it. There is a replacement drain tube that is insecticide-infused that can be installed for that situation.
