Help! Safe to drive? Knocking after car is turned off or door opened

    Whenever I turn off my car I hear the whirl that I used to hear send bought, but now it’s louder and includes a knocking sound.

    goes like this whirl (4 seconds) knock knock knock knock knock

    pause, then repeat about 6-7 times before stopping

    This also happens when I open my car door… Any of them

    It’s been doing it for about a month.

    I’m concerned now because it seems to be more extended and I have a freeway trip to take this weekend for a family reunion

    I had started getting some walking when I was holding my break down, which got worse for a little while after I got an alignment and then it pretty much went away

    any ideas and should I push it for this 3 hr trip and repair when get back.

    I did make this trip Three weeks ago with the same issue with no problems but browsing this chat form I want to make sure it can’t be something dangerous break related.

    Sorry that was supposed to say I had got some knocking when holding my break down previously… Not ‘walking’

    Sound like you've got air in the line and you have no orange lights on the dash to be clear? Well so far so good and the red b r a k e is not lit all the time. Then I would say let it rip if your brake fluid low or high or right on the full mark? Usually the hammering knocking like that is something going on with the brakes maybe air in the brake lines.

    I would say a flavor of the usual internal-leak situation. If pressure is leaking into a line when you're not using the brake, that pressure may have to be let off by repeatedly opening one of the pressure-release valves, a knock-like sound.

    I could be wrong on the exact details, but the car is probably due for a replacement brake actuator. In gen 2 it's just the one part, simplifies deciding which part's needed.
