Title says it all. I have a 2024 Prius Prime Base and a Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G and i'm experiencing a couple of issues that are "infotainment related". Like, for example, when using wireless Android Auto, music from Spotify cuts often. Like if i'm randomly pausing for a second or 2. Google map sometimes freeze.. Sometimes, rarely however, connection will drop and i'll have to reconnect Android Auto. Most often however it's like one side of the screen will freeze. I might ve able to touch the map and move it but the menu on the left of the screen is inoperative. Forcing a disconnect and reconnect will resolve the issue.. As for the sound cuts, at first, i tought it was network related but it still happens with a downloaded album. Does crap like that happens for some of you too? Is it my phone that's too old or the infotainment unit is crap? Something that would not surprise me at all from a Toyota, unfortunately..

Does it work properly if you connect the phone via USB? I'm in the habit of plugging my phone in (a Pixel 8 Pro) because my experience with wireless AA is that it works fine until it doesn't. I assume it's an issue of RF interference, but the whole user experience is definitely made worse by the fact that there's no easy way to reconnect the wireless connection once it drops. I suspect the former might be an inherent flaw in having a bunch of cars with wifi active driving around on the road, while the latter is something Toyota could definitely improve.

Anyway, my experience with wired AA is near flawless (with one caveat; see the other bug thread in this forum).

My 2023 Prius Limited (not prime) does similar things with my Galaxy 20 except that it seems to be in certain places that it loses the connection. One whole area of our small city will only work wired. I've read that it is actually an Android problem that they are working on, but I don't have the affected version of Android (14) because I won't let it install the update at this point. It works almost all the time except in that area.

There are three other power ports in the center console... The GoPro doesn't need to use the data port, does it?

Does the Prime not have 2 usb ports below the head unit? I have a data port and one that is simply for charging in my non-prime Limited.

There are also 2 USB-C charging ports in the console box and 2 more in the back seat area at the rear bottom of the center console.

What is your head unit (HU) version? if below 1586? There is an active TSB.. there may be another one that superspeeds it as well. Haven't paid TIS the $20 to look it up and hoping that dealer will take a look at 5k tire rotation

If you want, I'll give you the file so you can do it yourself. All you need is a flash drive and the file.

    Also...
There's no newer TSB. The only versions the TSB applies to are still <1586.

We have no problem with AA and Google Maps. It works flawlessly (wired on mine some of the time) and wirelessly on my husband's Samsung 10e.

I reread the post, we initiate it from the Android Auto, so I suppose it isn't actually running on the phone when we do that.

Thanks for the heads up. Mine has 1586 already so if there's nothing newer so far it is what it is :)

I finally have an appointment with the Master tech in the dealership to take a look at the Android auto issues have been having.

I get crazy announcements about how my session has timed out. Each and every time I enter the car I need to add the Bluetooth device because it doesn't start up automatically. Probably 1 in 10 times I need to add my entire profile again to the car and it forgets all of the user settings like stopping the headlight timing on shut off...

Probably one in 50 startups I get nothing total black screen and I can't press and hold the power to reboot I have to turn the car off.

I'll post again if they fix it this is next week I have the appointment. I'm not sure what software I have but my car was delivered in November of 23.

I have a Fold 3 and annoyingly on rare occassions it has connectivity issues wirelessly with both our '23 Prius and GR Corolla. Hilariously the aftermarket cheap a$$ Chinesium headunits I installed in our '02 Tundra and '11 Prius work flawlessly. It isn't a big deal as usually plugging in will resolve it and then typically the next drive will successfully connect to my phone wirelessly or even more rare but has happened a few times, it wouldn't want to connect with the wire either and required either phone or vehicle restart!

For the most part, no complaints but sometimes I do wish I lived in a reality where instead of a headunit, there was instead a dock there to put my fold 3 and have it get connected to the car, like some dex/android auto combo...would be awesome

With my iPhone 12, never had an issue connecting.
With my S10 running LOS, constant issues. Random but rare disconnects, failure to connect even when forced. Would have to toggle wifi off and on or reboot the phone.
With my FP5 phone, zero issues.

This tells me the problem is more likely the phone/software on the phone rather than the head unit. That's 2 out of 3 devices working great.

@HKz if you want some sort of dock situation, get a magnetic USB cable to use with it. Little magnetic connector stays in the phone, then like the old macbook connectors it'll magnetically connect to the cable. No stress on the phone's connector port this way, and it's a quick and easy connect and disconnect. Use some sticky cable tie downs to route the cable to a position where when you put the phone in a spot the phone easily connects to the cable.

Just make sure you buy compatible cables.

My old 5 prong magnet cables worked fine with the S10 but wouldn't work with the iphone12 unless it was a direct usbc connection (the usbc to old usb adapter that came with the cable made it so the iphone didn't charge). That cable also wouldn't work with my FP5 phone. Now I'm using round 7 pin magnetic cable. Works fine with all the devices though I'm switching over to an oval connector type ( 3256804610897560 on aliex).

Well mounting is not the issue, I'm saying I wish there were actual integration by using your phone as the headunit, with everything done on your phone including getting backup camera view, etc versus having the headunit from the factory.

IIRC the only company that ever attempted something like this was Sony years back when they had Xperias around, it was a double din unit you could install in your car and it perfectly held your phone in a docked position though I don't recall if you could in fact use the screen like a headunit.. oh well, AA/AC are good enough, and probably it is a good thing I can't use all the apps I really want to during a drive lol

I'm not having the same problems, except for maybe sound cuts. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is probably using the same OS. My audio will cut out just when I get a voice message from Waze or some other app. The workaround for me is to hit the MODE button, and cycle through the sources until I get the sound back. I find that the most annoying thing is that the audio player won't quit auto-playing as soon as I turn on the car, even when I have stopped it playing.

The phone fails to connect to the system about half the time after I start the car. I have to go into settings and connect it, which works about 90% of the time. Otherwise, I need to reboot my phone.

I have a spare phone, which I keep turned off, but I connected it to the system so that it would be all paired and ready if I needed to use it. The system keeps trying to connect to it, even though it's not labeled in the settings as the primary phone.

Small stuff really, not worth getting worked up over.

Instead of hitting the mode button try the talk button then cancel the voice command.

It should restore audio to full volume then (it has for me every time). It just completes the routine of "music is playing, audio notification comes in, reduce music audio and play notification, resume normal volume for music". It's that last part that sometimes isn't done so just gotta take it through that routine again somehow (and voice command was the simplest way I could do it). You can also initiate a voice command on the phone itself (i remapped my side button on my old phone to bring up google assistant)

Anecdotally, initial connection issues with Android Auto appear to be correlated with having the phone in my left pocket. Far fewer issues if the phone is in the car's center console when the car is started.

Not always though. Sometimes have to select the Bluetooth icon on the car's screen and tell it to connect. If that doesn't work, press the car's volume button for 10 seconds to reboot the multi-media system, sometimes reboot the phone.

Once or twice have had to plug it into USB to spur a connection, which has solved the issue instantly. It can then be unplugged and will immediately connect wirelessly.
