Any 3rd Gen PIP owners that have reconditioned or repaired their HV battery?

My 2012 PIP HV battery charge tops out at 8-8.5 miles of range according to my display. I feel like I get even lower mileage than that no matter how efficiently I try to drive.

I am considering refurbing the battery either through reconditioning or replacing weak modules. My goal is to increase the capacity of the battery to increase my EV driving range.

I have searched on the internet and in this forum but can't seem to find any technical data on reconditioning/replacing the lithium cells in a PIP battery pack or if it is even worth the effort.

Has anybody taken on such a task with their PIP battery pack? I would appreciate any info or experience you could share. Or any internet site/instructional videos you could point me to. Thank you

You should check out the Prolong System. It's a charger/discharge to help prolong the life
of the hybrid battery. You might be able to find a used one on ebay.
Hybrid Automotive – Extending the Life of Your Hybrid

There is no use in getting a used or reconditioned battery, it really won't be any better than
the one you have now. Get a new one.

I have read about the prolong charger. I have not seen anyone use it on a plug-in prius battery. I would also like to find out if it is better to do individual module vs pack reconditioning an if it is possible on this lithium pack.

how many miles on your car?
i don't recall anyone ever having to recondition their pip battery.
before attempting to recondition the battery, i would measure the battery capacity to see how much capacity is left.
the 'guess-o-meter' is not an indicator of battery capacity, it is simply a software program that uses past performance to estimate current range possibility.

The car has 166k miles. I used the dr prius app to check the life expectancy. It says it has 70% life left. I would like to prolong it's life or recover some capacity if possible.

Start leaning about Lithium Ion charging and life cycle on something smaller than the 300 lbs pack in your PIP.

The car already has a charger included, plug it in.

Talk to the guys at electromotive garage Rich rebuilds people up in I think Massachusetts see what they have to say You need people that are specialist in battery at this point not necessarily Prius your battery has 70% left of its capacity or whatever that's pretty doggone good as numbers go I don't know what these PIP Priuses are supposed to do with an 800 lb battery Go 10 mi or you kidding me wow so the volt is really a thing unbelievable I thought the volts 30 miles was pretty crappy from a similarly weighted battery I think I don't know I can't see it in the volt. But what did the PIP Prius do brand new from the dealership out the door 12 mi or something on electric really No I wouldn't even be able to fool with that I get out the driveway and it'll be dead The 30 of the volt is bad enough. And I was talking to a guy that I was working on his generation 2 for his son and he has he and his wife both have I think Prius primes but they're real old people I was trying to ask him about what the range is on the prime and he was talking about if you stay under the speed limit which I guess he meant 55 miles an hour or what have you you know it was like 18 mi or something like that I'm thinking to myself this is almost a $40,000 car or maybe more than that wow. I guess these were the things for introducing regular people to electro transportation or something I don't know. But that's interesting. It seems to me like 30 mi of rain just some kind of magic number You want to go over 30 mi of range it looks like you get into a battery that starts weighing well what a battery is going to wind up weighing in a completely electric car so then I guess the issue was why bother with the gas motor Just build the 260 mi range electric thing and forget the gas motor or keep the gas motor and keep the battery under say 800 lb and then that sticks you with whatever the range they come up with but it seems to be 30 is going to be about where that is It's interesting.

    Volt battery is much larger.
Pip did 90% of my driving in electric, that doesn’t work for most people, that’s why prime keeps increasing.
At some point, you have to call it a day and go full electric.

I understand. I wish I could help, but I think you need to look for shops that work on ev’s.
Maybe someone might be knowledgeable about restoring lithium batteries
