Hi Prius Chat. I would appreciate some help. This is my second Prius. I drove an '05 Prius for ten years till it was at 315,000 miles and sold it when the head gasket cracked. I'm having the following intermittent issues with my current '07 Prius which is at 203,269 miles. Does anyone know of a place to take it in Spokane who specializes in high mileage Priuses? I had a good mechanic in San Diego and a "Prius Whisperer" but since we've moved to Spokane I'm struggling to find someone to help. Would appreciate any ideas. Below is what's happening.

6-11-24 While driving the car, the red triangle warning light with an exclamation point came on, in addition to the check engine light. It made a high pitched noise and the AC went out. The car had low oil.

6-12-24 Drove car to Bob's Auto Repair. All warning lights still on, AC not functioning. Bob's performed the oil change but could not find anything wrong with the car. Bob's thought there could be an issue with the hybrid battery, but the hybrid battery was replaced in 2018. The issue did not present itself during a test drive, but warning lights were on when I dropped it off.

6-22-24 While driving the car, the AC went out. Then the red triangle warning light came on as well as the check engine light. It made a high pitched noise. We drove the car back to the house. McCann Mobile Auto Repair came out and ran a pressure test on the engine because the codes said there's oxygen in the system. The car passed the pressure test, the warning lights went off, and the AC came back on. The issue did not present itself during a test drive.

6-25-24 Issue presents itself again - AC turns off, and all the warning lights come on.

6-26-24 Drove car to AutoNation Toyota in Spokane Valley. Dealer replaced radiator, spark plugs, and brake assembly. The radiator was cracked and leaking on those parts and melting them. Spent $2,400.

7-3-24 Picked up car and drove it back to North Spokane. Drove car out to the lake 7-4-24 and the same issue presented. The AC shut off, and all the warning lights came on.

Man I can't believe through all these antics going back and forth to these places and nobody including the owner tells any of these shop owners that you need to print out of the codes that the vehicle is giving to the technician to help him repair the car $2,400 at the dealer to fix the brakes a cracked radiator and whatnot is almost too good of a deal to be true so what was really done at the dealer if it was a real Toyota dealer this should be really good The paperwork should be extensive If you look up radiators and brake parts for this car like the actuator you would have spent most of that money at Toyota retail parts of the dealer so not sure what happened there and that's the last place for this car I can't believe Washington State is as backwoods as it sounding on paper I have trouble believing that but I guess not I have a friend that went out to Oregon and couldn't believe what she stepped into but that's another whole story so something here is not making good sense The air conditioning going out is a clue sounds like maybe an intermittent inverter pump which when it gets hot enough that will slow down charging immensely of your big battery while driving and things like that so if you're looking at your energy monitor you will be in the low blue possibly middle magenta lines on your battery display in the energy monitor section won't be charging like it normally does things like that your air conditioner is being cut off by the car on purpose to save overheating the inverter and damaging it while it's not being cooled properly The pink liquid in the middle jug between the engine and the silver top hybrid synergy drive inverter needs to be full it needs to be moving when you take the cap off door open in the car is ready something you'll hear the pump whirring that's proper now we need to see why the jug is not on the full mark it's okay to open it It doesn't come squirting out and hit the roof of the car anything like that It's not under that kind of pressure or heat even when it's real hot it's only about 130° nowhere near boiling or pressurized

It was hard to read that, but check the inverter cooling water pump located directly behind the driver side headlight. This pump circulates coolant through the electrical portion of the hybrid system. This pump often goes intermittent or fails completely, allowing the inverter to overheat. Sometimes it even blows the AM2 fuse, which will shut the car off. Quite often, intermittent AC operation is one of the first signs of this pump failing, and people end up spending big $$ chasing a ghost AC problem.
