57011 Head Unit ‘System Not Installed’

    On our 2012 Prius v Five, for going on a year, we experienced the 57011 Head Unit ‘System Not Installed’ error intermittently, increasingly frequently, which has now become chronic.

    AUDIO is fine on AM/FM/HD. We don’t use satellite.

    The APPS switch on the HU is non-functional, MAPS and NAV and Bluetooth phone link to audio are dead.

    Steering wheel commands still control the Audio.

    What are people doing to remedy the 57011, anyone with good repair vendors, and are there drop-in replacements that use the steering wheel inputs?

    You can buy another 57011 on eBay for a good price. They were in a lot of Prii and fail occasionally. Fairly easy to remove but find instructions.

    Get one with the navigation and advanced Bluetooth box attached below the main unit.

    The Bluetooth will usually come back without album art by simply disconnecting the extension box on the bottom. Nav needs the extension box.

    Thanks. A possibility, though I’ve found pre-owned eBay electronics can be sketchy, especially where performance of multiple assemblies, in this case both HU and extension box, are concerned.

    The extension box is what you need. This problem comes up from time to time. No one will repair yours when a replacement is less than one hour tech labor. eBay has a good return policy.
