2006 (Gen II). Assumed ownership from death in the family. Warning lights intermittently came and went, even survived intermittent limp mode a few times. This time, had to have it towed 45 miles home (Mechanic lives on my street.)

Mechanic scanned and suggested replacing the accelerator location sensor.

I attempted to remove the accelerator assembly to take in and order the part, and just to see if I could even do this myself and hoping that the sensor is part of the assembly. Can't get to the top bolt without possibly removing the center barrier under the dashboard.

My physical condition after back surgery precludes me trying just anything with hopes of finishing the task.

The car remains parked, regardless of the fact that it is drivable again.

Any suggestions? Is the exorbitant cost of labor worth this? Costs $200 just to get the dealership to look at it. I know that I can't afford to own a late model car. Now back to paying the "rental fees" of gasoline in a '99 Explorer. "Rental fees" is my phrase for affordable cost of driving a car one owns. I can afford the three tanks of fuel in the Explorer that doesn't need hundreds or thousands of dollars in simple repairs.

Your mechanic's error code reading device has an outdated error code library that is not hybrid specific... Or at least that's what we usually tell people who come up with this particular error code. I live north of you in Olympia area and might be able to help.

Also having a mechanic who lives on your street, combined with YouTube videos and PriusChat means you're going to be able to fix this car in an affordable way. At least compared to what most people have to deal with.

Also this device costs under $20 and allows you quick and easy access to your car's diagnostic system via phone apps, like Dr. Prius and Car Scanner (ELM): Panlong OBD2 Scanner Bluetooth OBDII Diagnostic Tool Car Code Reader Turn Off... | eBay

Once we have the error codes we'll be able to help. Odds are you either have corrosion in voltage sensing circuit of battery pack or a failed cell in the battery pack. The former is an easy fix that will last a long time, the latter a temporary fix that will be resolved permanently once you've replaced the battery pack.

But that's just speculation until we know the codes. Maybe its something different?
