Long time lurker, just looking for some closure on a few questions I hadn't specifically seen.
2005 Prius originally with the gps MDF, starting doing the Lexus reboot, quickly got worse and worse. Sent is to autobeyours for repair. Got it back installed it and worked for a few days, then pretty much the same thing. Sent back under repair warranty. He switched the unit with a different repaired MFD, worked for about a week or two, then back to same problem. Third one (another different unit, this time no NAV system, I don't use it) worked for a few days and now pretty much the same behavior. This one is acting slightly different in that sometimes it boots up as a Prius, but with partial graphics. Ill attach a few pictures.
    My questions are:
Do I keep sending it back and trying different heads? I feel bad he and I are wasting 25 bucks each way, each time.
Should I take my car into a service center to have voltages checked? Can something other than the MFD cause this type of problem? Everything else on the car seems fine. Is there any recommended place to buy a know good (used or new) MFD? Does Toyota even sell them anymore?
Thanks for any responses, I just want my radio and climate control back.

I'm not sure if you can even buy these from Toyota anymore especially the seven button with GPS and if you could I imagine it's about $1,000 and it seems to me like it's not the MFD that's the problem it's maybe information supplied to the MFD whatever runs the MFD I haven't personally seen the Lexus logo pop up on any of my MFDs and I have a bunch of it I have a few seven buttons and one seven button car and the rest are all regular four button a cut above the base as they all have rear cameras but I have a base MFD in a car with the rear camera makes the rear camera pretty much unusable screen resolution is so poor you'd run over a kid if it was back there but other than that the MFD functions in every way that's a base MFD and an above base car with a rear camera I figured a four button could go where a 7 button goes as the main plug with all the power activity is the same for both units the seven button you're just missing the blue plug and the antenna wire for the GPS antenna and things like that. But your car is a 7 button with GPS I would be trying to just keep that to keep everything original I don't have the factory manual to show all the troubleshooting steps which would be valuable in this type of electrical repair You may be able to download it somewhere I imagine it is lengthy and it has a bunch of things to check off the list and then that's that It would be a lot easier to do that and keep sending back MFDs at $25 a pop usually these just plug up and work for the most part I've changed a bunch of them never seen this so it makes me kind of wonder if something further down the line that operates this part of the system is fubar and a manual will help you run that down in a short order.

Just to be clear, your car is a Prius and not a Lexus? Which trim?

I would verify if the vendor is “repairing” your original unit each time OR are they providing you with another used but working unit?

How much are they charging to repair a mfd?

I usually recommend NOT trying to repair when known good used units are available on eBay with a guarantee. The only caution is to get the same model as your car originally had installed.

Just to put an accurate number out there, depending on the model, these are actually between $4500 and $7000 to purchase new from Toyota.

Hysterical I would never even have to entertain that for a second there are so many of these around here holy moly and the Car will drive without it. Hell if I can drive a year with a broken break actuator I can certainly drive around without an MFD. But that is wild I couldn't even imagine that would buy me three or four more cars.
