A few days ago, I noticed that when I pressed the Remote's Open button, there were far more beeps than usual, maybe 6 (I didn't count) sets of (IIRC) two beeps (that is about a dozen beeps total) instead of the normal number of beeps (which IIRC correctly is just one set of two beeps when the Open button is pressed once). (I thought maybe some kind of reset was needed but didn't make time to ask about it.)

Today I noticed that no matter what I do, the front passenger door won't open. I've tried:
o Repeated presses of the Remote's Open button
o The unlock buttons on the front door frames
o The silver front passenger door open lever (it just clicks but does nothing)

(But lol at least pressing the Open button on the Remote only makes the car beep twice again.)

The lock/unlock indicator for the front passenger door remains black (never toggles to red) no matter what I do.

About a month ago I tried the procedure to make all doors open when the Remote's Open button was pressed. I don't recall my efforts having any effect.

Suggestions please? Or time to make an appointment with Art's in Berkeley? (I've got limited DIY abilities.)

I can't live with this situation.

So how is the remote and unlocking setup in the software right now One pushes the unlock button unlocks all the doors or just the driver door and then a second press unlocks the rest of the doors? I think this matters so now if you stand back and have somebody listen at the passenger door when you push the button once or twice whatever it is to unlock the passenger and the rest of the doors do you hear the solenoid in the passenger front door operating You hear the noise feel the click in the door all of that so then it's not your remote's problem I would think correct? It's more the electric motor solenoid whatever is making the noise but not moving the cable something? You'll have to open up the door to see I do believe there's probably several pages in the factory manual of checking just this kind of thing of course if when you click the button however many times on the remote it needs to be clicked and you're not hearing anything in this door and any of the other doors that you're supposed to then I would be suspect of the remote and what it's sending it signal to what is that the body control module

Thank you very much for your reply, Tom.

I'I'll explore your questions with each of my two remotes and report back.

If you unlock the door manually by toggling the "lock indicator" with your finger, will the door then "lock" when you press the lock button on the remote? Does it feel difficult to manually toggle?

Oops sorry TMR-JWAP I forgot to mention that if I try to manually toggle the Indicator it's impossible, it won't budge/move, it stays black. (Without hammering it of course.)

Using each of my remotes I tried listening to both of my front doors when I pressed the remote open button. With my ear to the driver door I heard a satisfying clicking unlock engaging sound, but with my ear to the passenger door I heard none of that, but I did hear an odd tinny pop sound.

Here's how the remote is set up now: One press of the open button unlocks only the driver's door which sounds two beeps. Two presses of the open button unlocks three doors but not the front passenger door and sounds four beeps.

    Both remotes function the same.

Sounds like the lock is mechanically stuck. Where has this car been driven?

Nothing adventurous since 2005 unless you count 116° weather last summer . However in 2005 I drove it 32,000 miles from California to Big Bend to Key West to Maine then up the mixed surface Dalton Highway to the Arctic Ocean.

I was going to say yeah if you can't so if you're inside the car can you make it unlock with your finger? Certainly if you can't turn the key either the key cylinder is stuck or it can work and the cable can't move what it's trying to move this stuff and that's not good door skin is going to have to come off at least

I'm confused. It's the front passenger door so there is no keyhole.

Yeah I got you buddy so am I so then inside the car you can easily move the button from black to red in and out back and forth no issue The door locks without problem by hand and then you can open it with the silver handle inside the car and get out but the remote does not operate the lot pressing it once or twice but when you're doing this all the other doors are opening when commanded then it would seem you need to look at the latch mechanism on the offending door and all of its connections. Yes there is no key on the passenger door.

Probably safe to say the lock is mechanically seized. Although the Prius may be different from other cars I've worked on, this has typically been due to the electric actuator motor seizing. 79-93 Mustangs were famous for this.

I've never held a gen 2 actuator in my hand, but when I replaced a couple in my gen 1, those actuators were built to be pretty much out of the way of the mechanical linkage when not actuating it. I couldn't easily imagine one of those actuators seizing in a way that would prevent manually working the lock.

Anyway, somebody's gonna have to take the trim panel off and look, and all should become clear....
