Hatch actuator or a fuse?

I'm sure there is a fuse that goes to the rear hatch to the lock mechanism it probably is in series with all the other locks on the car so just make sure you don't have any blown fuses that's the best way to do that and then if we're quiet when you push the button do you hear the actuator making that noise it makes kind of a click if you will indicating that your button pushing is actually trying to do something If not these buttons do get messed up not just the rubber getting yucky other than that it would probably be the actuator and they're very easy to change and they just plug in and you'll know if it works within seconds it will only take you minutes to change all the plastic trim just pulls up won't even need a screwdriver probably.

 

I have seen those lock actuators burn out when jammed. It is the most likely problem if your other door locks work since they are on the same fuse.

You can buy the hatch door lock on eBay. Installing it is a bit of work as several panels have to be removed if I recall correctly. Still it’s possible parked in your driveway or garage.

You could remove the panel covering it and inspect for jams and even remove it prior to buying another.

Finally, “bench” testing of the Lock and Door Status Switch is possible if desired. Use a separate FUSED 12v power supply if attempting the powered motor test. Jumping it using the Prius 12v battery could be dangerous or cause other issues.
