I am not a car person but do have a 2007 prius that I've had since 2011. I go to a shop that specializes in toyotas and hondas. The mechanic said I am going to need new front struts and that my brakes are at 3MM - can someone translate this to me? I am already getting a new ABS part so I don't have the budget for this at the moment. I also take my car there for oil changes and every time I get a laundry list of things that need to be fixed. I'm pretty direct and tell them I will only pay for what is absolutely needed which they are cool about. For example this time they gave me a list of about $5-$6k of work that the car needs. I've also seen mixed comments online about getting struts replaced so looking to the group for their thoughts and any advice.

Where do you typically take your prius for an oil change?

Maria's can go anywhere for an oil change You're getting a new ABS pump and accumulator or a used one or something like that is what's going on now If you have access to a male friend or a girlfriend or somebody that knows what they're doing sliding in new pads for the ones that are 3 mm thick is about a 20 minute 30 minute job for the front of the car each wheel and $39 worth of parts generally let them fail and get down to metal on metal in the cost goes up exponentially you'll need a new rotor and so on this does not require opening of the hydraulic system is done properly and carefully but you need to have that handled before they become metal on metal.

Struts can generally weight The car is getting a little soft I'm sure but if you're not at 200,000 plus you probably okay I've got cars with 300,000 in the original struts and they drive okay.
