Um... no it doesn't eliminate anything. I just smokes them out a little... hence the name. A true black out can make it harder to see, but it's still visible, depending on the level of blackout. I've seen a few that are extremely hard to see.

Reduced visibility, eye-level glare from a low sun, dirty lenses...

All a good recipe for losing a lawsuit.

Agreed and I'm not disputing that... except maybe the glare... the chrome on the OEM lights has got to be worse.

Yeah, you're right... chrome is less reflective than paint.

I see more failure to use turn signals than dangerously obscured ones. DRL are in the front and not affected by smoked tail lights. Brighter bulbs are available for all uses.

The Prius c has an array of center stop lights on the spoiler that is plenty bright. Smoking the tails in no way affects this.

I'm not interested in putting myself in harm's way and have satisfied myself that my smoked tails do not materially increase danger to myself or others.

I have very smoked out tail lights, as well as headlights, I can assure you there is still more than enough light emitted.

Every now and then I like to go back and see if '10 years ago me' agrees with the 2024 model.......and yup.
I still like it when people illegally modify their cars in 2024, even though I also believe that LEOs have better stuff to do than to yoke young drivers for illegal equipment.

My adopted home state recently outlawed squatted trucks (proof that Hippie-Lettuce DOES harm fetuses!!) which I'm OK with too.
    Our local LEOs LOVE it!!

It's a dead-bang 100% reason to pull over young drivers to make sure that they're sober, have insurance, and, if the driver is respectful more often than not they get a written warning ticket.

The LEO makes his or her paper for the month.
The Miscreant that got pulled over gets a chance to 'go legit' without being fined first.
    Insured driver rates go up.
    Drunk drivers are reduced.

    Like the 2014 'me' said.....
    Win-Win.
