As someone who bought an ad blocker for Safari, I have little sympathy Source:

. . . X has filed an antitrust suit against the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), a coalition of major advertisers. The lawsuit claimed that the alliance violated antitrust laws by coordinating with brands to dissuade them from spending money on the Elon Musk-owned platform.

The lawsuit was filed in a federal court in Texas. It accused GARM of conspiring with leading brands, such as Unilever, CVS, Danish renewable energy company Orsted, and Mars, to withhold billions of dollars of ad revenue owed to X (formerly Twitter) after Musk’s taking over the company in 2022.

In an open letter to advertisers, Linda Yaccarino, X’s chief executive, wrote, “The illegal behavior of these organizations and their executives cost X billions of dollars. People are hurt when the marketplace of ideas is undermined, and some viewpoints are not funded over others as part of an illegal boycott.”

It smells like "free speech but you must speak and pay me."

The most harmful thing we've done with the internet was to fund it with advertising... Just about every website you visit will try to load hundreds of different systems to track you and post ads in the most likely place you'll look with the most likely thing you'll buy.

Adblock Plus | The world's #1 free ad blocker is a good tool to use with your web browser. Also another essential extension to install is: Privacy Badger | Electronic Frontier Foundation which, among other things, will block a website's ability to track your web history to sell you ads.

Both of these devices may have to be turned off on some websites if you want to view their content. However sometimes you can use this site to view content without having to deal with ads or paywalls: 12ft

As for Elon suing businesses for protesting his anti-social right-wing stupidity, that's not market fixing / collusion, it's simply a matter of choice by corporate advertisers who have more of a conscience than his sick vile sense of the right and wrong in the world.

I mean to be more degenerate than corporate advertisers to the point you sue them for not going along with an agenda the majority of us hate says all you need to know about someone who I once cheered on who has fallen from grace in the most disastrous of ways.

Today Rolling Stone published a review / less biased coverage of book about Elon's legacy:

"FOR THE PAST few weeks, Vivian Jenna Wilson, the estranged daughter of Elon Musk, has taken to the Threads platform to deliver scathing criticism of her father, characterizing him as a cruel absentee father who is “desperate for attention and validation from an army of degenerate red-pilled incels and pick-mes,” as she wrote in July. Now, Wilson is taking aim at yet another target in Musk’s orbit: his biographer, Walter Isaacson, whose book about the Tesla CEO was released in 2023. “Let’s talk about the Walter Isaacson book,” Wilson wrote in an impassioned thread on Sunday. “For those of you unaware, he wrote a biography about Elon in which I am featured.” Wilson, who is transgender, is estranged from her father, which she has attributed in part to his history of making anti-LGBTQ comments. In 2022, she filed a petition in court requesting to change her name, stating she no longer wanted to have any connection to her father “in any way, shape or form.” Vivian Jenna Wilson Blasts Elon Musk Biographer Walter Isaacson

"You must pay me for something you don't want, or it will go badly for you" smells like nothing to me so much as what we used to call a protection racket.

As most everyone armors up with ad-blockers, SmartTube and what not, those without such armor are futher inundated.

Anyone still watching over-the-air TV (either via cable or antenna)? That medium is virtually unwatchable; I can't imagine trying to watch a movie on it.
