As someone who bought an ad blocker for Safari, I have little sympathy Source:

. . . X has filed an antitrust suit against the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), a coalition of major advertisers. The lawsuit claimed that the alliance violated antitrust laws by coordinating with brands to dissuade them from spending money on the Elon Musk-owned platform.

The lawsuit was filed in a federal court in Texas. It accused GARM of conspiring with leading brands, such as Unilever, CVS, Danish renewable energy company Orsted, and Mars, to withhold billions of dollars of ad revenue owed to X (formerly Twitter) after Musk’s taking over the company in 2022.

In an open letter to advertisers, Linda Yaccarino, X’s chief executive, wrote, “The illegal behavior of these organizations and their executives cost X billions of dollars. People are hurt when the marketplace of ideas is undermined, and some viewpoints are not funded over others as part of an illegal boycott.”

It smells like "free speech but you must speak and pay me."

The most harmful thing we've done with the internet was to fund it with advertising... Just about every website you visit will try to load hundreds of different systems to track you and post ads in the most likely place you'll look with the most likely thing you'll buy.

Adblock Plus | The world's #1 free ad blocker is a good tool to use with your web browser. Also another essential extension to install is: Privacy Badger | Electronic Frontier Foundation which, among other things, will block a website's ability to track your web history to sell you ads.

Both of these devices may have to be turned off on some websites if you want to view their content. However sometimes you can use this site to view content without having to deal with ads or paywalls: 12ft

As for Elon suing businesses for protesting his anti-social right-wing stupidity, that's not market fixing / collusion, it's simply a matter of choice by corporate advertisers who have more of a conscience than his sick vile sense of the right and wrong in the world.

I mean to be more degenerate than corporate advertisers to the point you sue them for not going along with an agenda the majority of us hate says all you need to know about someone who I once cheered on who has fallen from grace in the most disastrous of ways.

Today Rolling Stone published a review / less biased coverage of book about Elon's legacy:

"FOR THE PAST few weeks, Vivian Jenna Wilson, the estranged daughter of Elon Musk, has taken to the Threads platform to deliver scathing criticism of her father, characterizing him as a cruel absentee father who is “desperate for attention and validation from an army of degenerate red-pilled incels and pick-mes,” as she wrote in July. Now, Wilson is taking aim at yet another target in Musk’s orbit: his biographer, Walter Isaacson, whose book about the Tesla CEO was released in 2023. “Let’s talk about the Walter Isaacson book,” Wilson wrote in an impassioned thread on Sunday. “For those of you unaware, he wrote a biography about Elon in which I am featured.” Wilson, who is transgender, is estranged from her father, which she has attributed in part to his history of making anti-LGBTQ comments. In 2022, she filed a petition in court requesting to change her name, stating she no longer wanted to have any connection to her father “in any way, shape or form.” Vivian Jenna Wilson Blasts Elon Musk Biographer Walter Isaacson

"You must pay me for something you don't want, or it will go badly for you" smells like nothing to me so much as what we used to call a protection racket.

As most everyone armors up with ad-blockers, SmartTube and what not, those without such armor are futher inundated.

Anyone still watching over-the-air TV (either via cable or antenna)? That medium is virtually unwatchable; I can't imagine trying to watch a movie on it.

Thanks, I did not know her name. So I tried to find something about her: Who is Vivian Jenna Wilson? A Closer Look at Elon Musk's Daughter

Vivian Jenna Wilson, the daughter of billionaire Elon Musk who is transgender, has attracted attention for controversial comments made by her father. . . .

Due to the absence of a Wikipedia page and minimal online visibility, there is limited information available about her. . . . Although Vivian Jenna Wilson’s exact personal net worth remains unknown, she does enjoy her father’s sizable wealth.

A short list of those she joins:
    • On a 2023 episode of The Kardashians, Scott Disick's 11-year-old daughter, Penelope, called him out for his pattern of dating "much younger" women.
    • At the 2019 Comedy Central Roast of Alec Baldwin, his daughter Ireland called him out over the infamous voicemail he left her when she was 11, calling her "a thoughtless little pig." After jokingly reintroducing herself to her dad,
    • In a since-deleted 2013 tweet, Miley Cyrus called out her dad, Billy Ray, a few weeks after her mom, Trish, filed for divorce.
    • In 2019, 14-year-old Apple Martin called out her mom, Gwyneth Paltrow, for posting a picture of her in ski goggles on Instagram.
I don't know either personally. But this is something more likely to be found in a Supermarket tabloid . . . which I don't buy either.

I like to watch Mecum auto auctions. The shows are 3 hours. I can generally watch in 30-40 minutes because I record and then use the fast forward button to skip the vehicles I'm not interested in and the ads.

I have no idea what causes some males to change to female and more than I understand some women who choose to become males. It isn't any of my dam business.

We still watch via antenna and laptop-based PVR. Fast forward through the ads.

A portion of them were born physically intersex, then wrongly assigned and converted to a 'traditional binary' status without their input or consent, in order to 'fit' into a society that mostly couldn't or wouldn't tolerate those who don't fit neatly into the traditional binary straitjackets.

That isn't a full answer, there are other portions, including those with different brain organization. But I suspect that societal difficulties in accepting non-binary people as they are, is a major driver in 'conversions'. I.e. they weren't really fully male or female in the first place, we just assumed so based on only outward physical appearance.

    If a product is free?
    YOU are the product.
    @ Musk
He's kinda in the catbird seat on this issue, which is why his buying "formerly known as" will go down as one of the most selfless acts ever performed by everyone's favorite deeply flawed centibillionaire.
All he as to do is offer some Dewey Cheatum & Howe law firm a piece of the action to go after GARM.
If they owe the money? Good nuff.
    If not?
Then we will know the things in due time.
If it's a BS action then the court will order sanctions.
    Pretty binary, actually.

Back in a long ago time, when Oldsmobile 98 Coupes and Chrysler New Yorkers roamed the earth, future conservatives delivered something called....newspapers.
These were often as not operated by people who at least made some passing reference to journalistic principles - even if sometimes they the kids who were too lazy to deliver their product when they were a child.
Newspapers evolved from the single page tabloids that were passed out and tacked up in town squares to the many pages of news and local interest items, obits, sales adverts, that necessitated something called paper boxes that accompanied mailboxes in front of single family detached dwellings - back when THOSE were affordable.

Papers are mostly either extinct because of irrelevancy OR they have regressed to their former single or two page tabloid versions because EVEN media people need to get paid for their efforts.
    Advertisers are much the same.
Like the newspapers that advertisers used to fund, we may THINK that the world is better off with their passing but what will they be replaced with?
    Me?
I do not like paying lawyers and doctors either - but I recognize that the world is better for their efforts.

    Yes.
    Even lawyers.
Scavengers perform a necessary if loathsome task and the world would be worse off if they all sought more noble employment. ;)
