I did an oil change yesterday opening the stupid little door as I always do everything I thought went without any problems when I looked later about five hours I found oil on the floor under my car I freaked, so I put it back up on the Jack stands and opened the door and what do you know I squished the O ring it was sticking out a little I can't believe I didn't see it the first time so I was able to take the filter out and not lose very much oil at all, put a new O ring in correctly, the issue is the splash shields insulation is all full of oil so my question first would possibly be directly to (Mendel Leisk) Or anybody else after reading your removal of the splash shield can it be removed on a garage floor with Jack stands on the left and right side and a floor jack under the Jack Point to lift it up higher and what do I do about the insulation that soaked with oil I wouldn't think I could clean that any thoughts from anybody would be very helpful check the o ring before you close an oil filter change, lesson learned

My insulation was already falling apart when I had a similar thing happen and my remaining tattered insulation got soaked.
    I just removed the insulation.

I went to the spin on oil filter conversion and never looked back.
