Disable auto-dimming mirror

If you find the mirror goes too dark, ensure that its light sensor (on the back) is not blocked. (If you have dark windshield tinting, there may be nothing you can do.)

I've not found any way to keep the mirror turned off by default.

It has On and Off switches, the | and the O buttons on the right.

Alternately, here's a stupid idea: you could tap into the power wire going to the mirror and install a small LED pointing into the sensor so that it never thinks it's dark when you're driving. You would have to find a convenient way of turning off the LED when you DO want to use the auto-dimming feature, though.

I think this is probably not the kind of solution the original poster is looking for.

Yup, there is on/off, but the OP is looking for a default off. When you turn the mirror off, and park the car, the next time you start up, it is on again. Bad design IMO! If it has a switch, why not allow the user to actually control it. The cruise control, on the other hand is the other way around! I think it should stay on, yet it turns itself OFF the next time you start up.

If you don't use the "Homelink" stuff, you could just unplug the connector in back of the mirror. Buth then it would be OFF off. No switching back on quickly in traffic.

I like the mirror as it is once I programmed it to my garage door opener - took three tries to get it to work. If you program yours, be sure to follow the manual instructions "to the letter."

 

I just thought of a much better way! How about a tab you just flip...one for daylight, and another for driving at night,
or when the guys headlights behind you are too bright. Maybe I shouldn't have posted my idea here, and just patented the idea. he heh ehehehe

Some of us have a tinted rear window. It isn't that I don't like the "feature" it is just that I'd like some control over it. Doesn't seem too much to ask that it have an "off" switch that keeps it off until such time that I want it on.

 

Shouldn't the Toyota tech be able to change the default profile - eg: Off by default - using the THHT??
