Nice to see that they're closer to shipping.

Though for that kind of money I'd prefer a restored/repowered Vanagon.

You'd probably get a restored one for that price, but an EV conversion could add another $85k to the price.

I probably should have clarified- I meant either a Subaru EJ or Ford Zetec re-power, both of which are pretty common in the Vanagon community these days.

Go with an old Porsche engine, and keep the air cooled charm.

I know of a shop that sold an adapter plate to do exactly that, but I could swear theirs was meant to put a watercooled Porsche into a watercooled Vanagon- I wouldn't know if the same plate would work for an aircooled Porsche engine, though I know the VW bellhousing stayed the same when they changed from air to water.

Ah, didn't realize there were water cooled ones.

"Porsche created a version called B32 in a limited edition. The van, based on the luxurious Carat model, was equipped with the 231 PS (170 kW) 3.2 liter Carrera engine and was originally developed to support Porsche's testing activities in Algeria. Ten of these were built, with some sold by Porsche to special customers, even having a Porsche VIN.[15] Porsche themselves also used the Porsche-engined bus to transport staff rapidly.[16] Top speed was around 135 mph (217 km/h), although Porsche only claimed 116 mph (187 km/h) to ensure that the numbers could be replicated with nine people in the car and with the air conditioning on full"

In South Africa, it had a 5 cylinder Audi engine.
