I tend to keep my cars for a long time, typically 10 years minimum. Our 2019 Prius Limited came with the JBL 11.6" touch screen that does not come with Apple Car Play / Android Auto. Based on my research, the 2020 Prius does offer Apple Car Play / Android Auto. Since we still have many more years left with this car, I would like the car to have Apple Car Play / Android Auto. I visited ebay and found a few sellers selling the complete head unit for $1,600 Ouch! I am willing to bite the bullet since $1,600 is a lot cheaper than trading in the car.

My question to you all is, has anyone done this? is it just a matter of unplugging the existing head unit and plugging in the new one?

Thanks manny <smile> , I'm not a big fan of linking all my stuff into a provider, and specially since audio stuff has been headed in the opposite direction from what I preferred since the 70's quad debates, but that's just my preference.
If I see a post here about the cars entertainment systems that looks well done I try to keep it in mind for sharing if a question comes up and a link could possibly help answer\ another persons question.

With projects like the one you're asking about, if no body has already posted about it or has a definitive answer to the specific models, taking a look at what is in your car is the best first step. I've pulled radio / nav units a few times. Once you get it out and document it's connections, it's multitudes easier to find a possible compatible unit that does what you want without having to shell out retail.
Sometimes though it's more work than the benefits received, at least after the first week or two of having the new options available to use.

oh yeah, if you do install a different unit than came with, don't for get to keep the one you pulled in case something unexpected happens and service if refused due to your customization.
