Happy New Year. Got my 2007 Pkg 5 a few days ago, and am slowly being driven insane by the reverse beeps. I have tried the method found at Prius Chat with the ODO button, hold 10 seconds, power off, power on, etc., but no success. Is there some difference for the 2007's? Has anyone been successful in muting the reverse beeps in a 2007? Thanks Green Acres

Perhaps you are not following the directions exactly -- I found them a bit confusing the first time. Here are the directions that I am using: Disabling Reverse Beep • Power on the car, Cycle ODO/TRIP, stopping on ODO, Power off the car. (the ODO button next to the KM/MPH button) • Power on, within 6 seconds, hold ODO for at least 10 seconds. • While still holding ODO shift into Reverse and back into Park. (Yes, Reverse then press the Park button) • b-on shows on speedometer display, press ODO to cycle to "b-off". (where the ODO display _was_, now you should have "b-on" or "b-off". Set it to b-off with the ODO button and then power the car off. Now when you turn on the car and put it in reverse, the annoying beep inside the car will not happen.
The first step may be somewhat confusing too, even if your car is already on ODO when you power it on in step 1, you still have to cycle through the Trip A, Trip B and then stop on ODO. I have done this successfully on first try in my 2007.
It took me two tries on my 2007 as well, but so glad it's gone. Was driving me batty. Now I wonder if when I take the car in later this year for the first oil change (six months coming up in March) if it will get reset by the dealer? Dave
Thanks Scoot for the "backup" beep fix. It worked fine on my new 07 today altho it took a couple of tries to get the hang of it. Schnozz
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(SteveB @ Jan 5 2007, 08:00 AM) </div> You're welcome. The instructions are concise because I got it wrong the first few times myself, although the instructions I was reading were correct. I just needed more detail.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(scoot @ Jan 7 2007, 12:46 PM) </div> I'm going to try this tomorrow! It works on all models, then? I hope it won't be as frustrating as the garage door opener that took me three days to finally get right. (Turns out that in Canada cycling off and on very two seconds the transmitter means to actually press and hold the button for two seconds, then to rapidly press again--kind of contrary to how I would've used it to open the door, but oh well...) <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Green Acres @ Jan 1 2007, 01:22 PM) </div> I have had mine for four days now and the beep was also driving me nuts. I followed your instructions and on the second try - voila! Thanks!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DaveLeePrius @ Jan 2 2007, 11:40 AM) </div> It probably won't reset the beep. The dealer who got my beep off said it'll only reset if the battery dies.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(razzledazzlebee @ Feb 26 2007, 03:04 AM) </div> Maybe you mean the 'big' battery, but it didn't reset when I ran the little 12v battery dead.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(scoot @ Jan 1 2007, 10:46 AM) </div> Ahhhhh. Thank you! Now I don't feel like I'm driving a fork lift.
Just a note: this same procedure also works to disable the driver's and passenger's seat belt beeps. When you get to the shifting part, buckle a seat belt instead. I do not advocate driving on public roads without wearing a seatbelt! I have a rural mailbox and a long driveway. On the way home, I get out of my car to get the mail, then back in to drive to my house. The beeping then was just stupid. I always wear my seatbelt leaving my house, buckle-up before starting the car, but coming home I'm glad I don't get the slow, then urgent, beeping anymore. By the way, the easiest way to kill the passenger beep, unless you are a real contortionist, is to have a passenger click in the seat belt. I think most people who have problems with this procedure aren't holding down the ODO button long enough before trying the rest; at least 10 seconds, 30 seconds works fine too. And if you disable the back-up beeps with this procedure, consider wiring in a real back-up beeper to the back-up lights that can be heard outside the car.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Green Acres @ Jan 1 2007, 01:22 PM) </div> I have a European 2006 Prius. The fix used in America will not work in Europe. After many tries I convinced my dealer to remove the beep. The car was sent to the distributer. The beep speaker was actually cut out (I was given the removed part). This stopped the beep but also stopped the 'light on' beep when the doors are opened. I hope this helps any European owners with this problem.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Ryder @ Mar 8 2007, 02:35 AM) </div> AWESOME! Worked the first time for me. Holy crap that was annoying.
Idea for Toyota-Volume Setting for safety beeps I understand that Toyota wants to keep the Reverse Beep as you can't see which gear you are in via the "drive by wire" shifter, but would have to check the dashboard display. That said, Toyota "could" include a Volume Setting for the "beeps" including the seatbelt beep. If we could just turn the beep volume down...the beeps are loud enough to be a dangerous distraction. Just a thought Toyota.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(HBO6 @ Mar 14 2007, 06:57 PM) </div> Well, I don't have the problems of the '07, since I have an '05. I disabled the beep and my wife told me she wanted it back. She thought that people outside the car could hear it well enough to warn them that you're backing up. So I turned the beep back. Personally, I rather get rid of the beep inside the car and increase its volume outside the car. Dave M.
