Not ready

    Hi

    I have a problem with the Prius 3 2010.
    I replaced the steering columns. After the replacement, the car fired up normally, I did a test drive (without the driver airbag). After the ride, I parked, tightened the steering wheel and put on a airbag. Now the car does not want to go into ready mode (it turns on with the lights on dashboard). There are no errors in the computer.
    I noticed that the immobilizer light flashes all the time even with the ignition on.
    12V battery is brand new.
    I try to disconect 12v battery and main battery fuse.

    Do the brake lights light up in back as you're trying to go READY?

    But all marked as historical. Their cleaning didn't change anything and didn't reappear.

    But I'm not sure that there's anything in the steering column that would have to deal with your immobilizer You're immobilizer wasn't doing this before the steering column change and does that mean when you say steering column is that also the electric motor piece that's a whole piece or does that come apart and there again I don't think any of this has to deal with the immobilizer that's interesting that you're immobilizer is looking for something or the remotes not speaking to the immobilizer maybe You have a red light that lights on your key fob?

    No message on the MID like KEY NOT DETECTED or anything?

    The warning lights on the dash mean you have trouble codes that need to be read. You need a better scan tool than what you are using. Take a look at this thread for a review of different scan tools:

    It seems possible the lights on the dash are the ones normally seen in IG ON rather than READY state.

    The behavior of ending up in IG ON state when READY was intended can be seen if the brake light signal did not reach the right ECU(s) when the power button was pressed. In such a case, the car doesn't report any error, it just honestly thinks you wanted IG ON and not READY.

    #5 at least confirmed the brake lights come on at the rear of the car. There might still be an issue with the signal reaching an ECU. A scan tool that can show live data might shed some light. Even if it shows no trouble codes, the live data display could show the status of the brake pedal input, etc., at the moment the power button is pressed.

    I didn't see that light. I'll check.

    None. It looks like he's been through IG and he's stopped

    I use techstream with a mini VCI cable. I checked each module individually and as a health tick and no errors.


    How to check it with techstream?

    When I was replacing the steering column, I took off the dashboard. I've checked now if I've just disconnected something and it looks like everything is OK.

    In Techstream, you can go to Body Electrical / Power Source Control / Data List.

    You can see a bunch of values there. One I would look for is Stop Light Switch1. Does it go from OFF when you are not pressing the brake to ON when you are pressing the brake?

    For that matter, does the amber/green spot in the power button light up green when you press the brake?

    There are a bunch of other values in the Power Source Control data list that could be of interest (Start Switch1, Start Switch2, Latch Circuit, relay monitors for IG1 and IG2 inside/outside, ACC Relay Monitor, Ready Signal, Vehicle Speed Signal, Shift P Signal Pulse, Power Supply Condition, IG1 Circuit, IG2 Circuit, Starter Switch Signal Mismatch, Park Signal Mismatch, Key Certification Waiting Timed Out, Number of Diagnosis Code). The repair manual says more about what those all tell you.

    There are also a bunch of things you can see under Body Electrical / Smart Key / Data List. The repair manual lists those too.

    There are Power Source Control active tests where you can make the amber/green LED in the power button light up amber or green. Not super exciting, but at least you can confirm the LED works.

    If I'm guessing right and the car is just going to ON (IG) but not ON (Ready), it might pay to just turn in the repair manual to "Power Source Mode does not Change to ON (Ready)" and follow along.

    Something I never knew until today: if the problem really is the Stop Light Switch1 signal not reaching the ECU, there is an override method to get to READY anyway: go to ACC first (in P, and with the parking brake applied), push the brake (for form's sake, even if the ECU doesn't know you're doing it), then hold the power button for 15 seconds.

    I have learned my new thing for the day.

    Yes and yes. Value is on, ready lights are on and power button light goes from amber to green.

    One thing I noticed. The car icon with a lock keeps flashing. It's as if the immobilizer doesn't allow it to start and I can't hear the clicks of the battery relays.

    I tried to do calibration via techstream (Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Utility / Reset Memory and Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Utility / Test Mode ) but it was not succesfull and now i have 2 errors C1203 and C1345.

    And one more thing. I cannot go to neutral gear.
    I go IG, put brake (try with and without)
    and try to go N. Car just beep and nothing change.

    Wait, what? Did you just say "ready lights are on"? Can you back up and use a few more words for what exactly you saw?

    That sounds, again, like exactly what my car would do if I were not pressing the brake (or it did not notice me pressing the brake).

    But you've said Techstream shows Stop Light Switch1 go ON when you press the brake?

    Very curious....

    Oops, mistake. I wanted to say stop lights :)

    Yeah... I really don't know what it could be. I'm starting to wonder if I've damaged one of the ECUs.

    A little update. It looks like an immobilizer problem. After pulling out the ecu behind the heater (this one) [​IMG] , disconnect it and reconnect, the car started (checked 3 times). After disconnect and reconnect it again, car doesn't start.
    Two questions. Does anyone have connection scheme of immobilizer to check the cables and does anyone have experience with replacing the immobilizer (all three ecu)?

    I think your first track is going to be to view a PDF or get the actual books which I don't think you can do for 2010 and above of the factory manual It's like a two book set if it came in books thick ones like ones you wouldn't want to carry to school No kidding You have probably I would guess for that system not looking at the manual personally right at the moment probably about 50 pages of reading to do seriously and until you do that probably not a lot is going to help you. I don't think a lot of people have a bunch of experience ripping out the SKS system out of most Prius to be honest about it so there's always going to be that I don't know how many of the parts have to be registered to each other or how exactly that works the manual will explain all of that in great detail I have these manuals for other Toyotas that I've owned throughout the years and they are huge the manuals lots of pages but I think for your car 2010 and forward It's all PDF and online You have to find somebody who's hosting the manual or can send you the PDF file it's huge I think there's some things maybe you're missing here regardless of what the car is doing or not doing.
