OEM spare tire install

Yes, the diagrams of the jack for the LE $168 # 09105-52030, and the $90 # 09105-47020 for the Prime appear identical. Each of the diagrams lists the exact same component part numbers. The only potential difference is that "type a" has a slim bag, and 'type b" has a larger bag.

Think I'll try it without the deckboard and weather cargo liner, see if that works. Deleting those two items and using the Prime jack drops by upgrade price by about a third.

Hi all! I'm in the process of completing this for my 2024 Limited- just waiting for a tire to be installed on the wheel. I bought my kit from Lewis Toyota during their Labor Day Sale. My question is what are you doing with the two large original pieces of styrofoam? I hate to throw them away and they are fairly large to store (also I see no reason to hang onto them). Thanks!

I cringe when I think about the huge WHITE styrofoam pieces and what to do once I get my car and add the spare kit.

I hear ya. I don't see it so- out of sight/out of mind. I fit the jack etc no problem.
I'm going to spend the money I didn't spend on the other parts for suspension parts.

 

Since the LE FWD trim has lower floor, do you think you can fit a full size tire without it sticking out?

 

The metal body floor of the LE isn't lower, it just comes with a shallower expanded plastic tray to start with. The fitting of the spare tyre to the floor is the same for all trims. (And there's no FWD/AWD difference).

If you fit a space-saving spare tyre and the tray for it, that tray is the same height as the one the XLE and Ltd came with. If you started with an LE, you've lost some cargo space.

And a full-size tyre is always going to bulge out of the tray designed for the space-saver tyre - you'd need to construct an even-higher tray.

 

What if you don't install the foam below the spare tire and just use the screw on cap to fasten the tire to the floor while cut out the stock foams on both sides, would that work?

 

That could work kind of okay, if you had an XLE or Ltd.

No, even a temp spare will not fit in the LE unless you raise the floor and give up some of your storage space for everyday use.

Here are pics with a temp spare, which is considerably more narrow than a full size tire.

 

With 4th gen FWIW, there were two floor levels, dependent on if the car had the spare or not. The differences were accommodated by different fill pieces, and maybe a slightly different floor as well.

5th gen (except AWD I think) do have space for temp spares, at least as evidenced by the Owner's Manual, which has a section on the temp spare, with the proviso "if equipped". See attached:

 

Hammersmith, Mendel thank you both so much for your patience and attention to detail. My wife and I have had our 24 xle since January, and I am one of those trying to save by not making a mistake when I finally pull the trigger and purchase everything required for the spare. It is sad to be old and taken advantage of by the manufacturers that only sell us what they want, instead of what we want. I would much rather have a safe spare to use and not need it, than need one and not have it.

Not a thing of great beauty but it will work if needed. Thank you Hammersmith for posting the correct size wheel and tire for a compact spare. Toyota had the wheel on sale for $70. Tire was $115. I used one of the tie down bolts from my Mazda which had 2. Now I'm looking for a decent scissor jack. One from Amazon, 2 ton, was junk and had to be returned. Cutting out the styrofoam was the hardest part. I wish it could have been neater but sometimes it doesn't work out that way. It will be nice knowing I have a spare.
