2005 Need More Legroom on Drivers Side

I don't know if you will find that information here but on an old site called Toyota modification server this has been done many times and the seat rails in the Prius and cars that this has been done to are very similar the dual rails that literally are on your seat assembly as you do know they are kind of built to the seat frame so it's very difficult to like put a different set of sliders in the car unless you're changing the whole seat or you could maybe get another set of universal sliders real cheap like on eBay and Amazon there's several styles you can buy now and modify those grind off the mount points on your existing seat if you really like that and then a fix your seat to the new slide brackets that you bought wherever that actually may be easier than trying to mess with the Toyota bracket seat assembly itself if you know what I mean. funny you should ask If you send me an email which is my name here at gmail.com I have two seat brackets that are off the car to seat assemblies with the bracketry removed and I can send you pictures so you can see what you're dealing with I had two leather seats from a tan '09 loaded car and leather that my buddy was going to put in a boat so we removed the WR seat brackets which are like 702-5855-204 WR and I used a grinder to whack off the pieces that have the bolt holes that mount the assemblies to the car anyway I've got pictures you might want to take a look at to give you an idea of what you want to do or not Good luck

 

So essentially what the guy did was use his grinding wheel to slice off the part of the bracket that has the two bolt holes for the front and rear of each side of the seat and in doing this it looks like you could just move the whole seat back 4 in or whatever reweld it to the brackets that you just whacked off now sit that in the car and bolt the bolts down and you should be back 4 in all throughout the range

 

You can buy a bracket made for the car as I did with my v.

 

Yeah I knew somebody would pop up with the right stuff this is essentially what the guy was doing to the seat that I have two of sitting right here He had whacked off the part that bolts to the floor and then he could just bolt those pieces back to the floor set the seat on the brackets as far back as he wanted Mark that undo the brackets well the brackets back onto the seat back where he set them and now his adjustment starts way back there where he's at so the seat can almost slam into the backseat but here it's all done for you all you do is bolt the brackets in and you're done and if that's around a hundred bucks I guess that's reasonable because by the time you get done grinding off the brackets and putting them where you want and tacking them back on and doing whatever you could just do this and that's usually how it is today The problem will have a relatively simple solution that's around a hundred bucks and this should be that.

 

I can also tell you a great story about Andre the Giant yeah the wrestler and that little short guy the announcer who went on to own most of WWF back in like 77 through 84 in West Springfield Massachusetts at high value gasoline station I had to beat Andre's passenger seat in a Plymouth reliant K car into a pulp to get it to go back two or three more inches It was hysterical The little announcer guy had his seat all the way up into the dash and Andres was all the way back and Andre's knees were still in his chin He used to come there to get fuel right regularly when he was on his way to the Springfield armory to wrestle on Saturday mornings.

 

For gen2 they used to sell super expensive seat rail extenders so it can slide back further. But as a fellow tall person I've found the easiest and free way to solve this is to replace the center console between the seat with a pillow. That solved all my problems, near 200K miles ago.

 

Ouch 350 a seat holy Jesus yeah I might try my project before I do that seems to me I can modify the existing bracket which has already been done by the guy that did these brack these seat backs they're seat assemblies that I took all the upholstery off of so it looks like all I have to do now is bolt the set of the brackets that are cut off the seat into the car set my seat or other seats with the brackets whacked off onto the new pieces that are cut off that are bolted to the floor then set the seat or I want it to be starting with the bracket slid forward or in the middle whatever and then just tack that bracket piece right back onto the seat bottom and keep getting it I seem simple enough for $350 I think I could do this for maybe 170 of my time about 2 hours

 

They charge more than that for more room on any airline and that is only good for one ride.

 

I'm just saying if you see how this guy cut the brackets off the car the floor mount part of the bracket The adjusters and the pull bar is still on the bottom of the seat just the pieces that go on the floor with the bolts are off the car now you could just quickly I'm guessing you're looking for 4 in or something like that that's the width that the grinder and the blade that cut the weld loose. Now you just slide the seat back the width of that 4 in that you just cut mark that on your bolted down floor pieces unbolt those set the seat upside down put the brackets back where you want them now about 4 or 6 in back where you've measured and marked with a sharpie and tack them in two places front and back do the other side set the mess back down in the car and bolt it up that should have taken you 2 hours or less especially if you have your wire feed weld or sitting right there at the ready its ridiculously silly actually.
