OK, study completed, conclusion drawn and confirmed!
    • Baseline mileage with A41 had been 53
    • Michelin Defenders at normal inflation only gave me 45
    • Overinflated the Defenders by 4# and ran for 2600+ miles. 49.8 mpg.

    • Bought a new set of A41s and installed them yesterday. First 117 miles: 55.0 mpg.

It's important to me that everyone I talked to at any garage or tire store knew nothing about this issue. They all just kinda shrugged. Certainly all the tire-store "we've got the right tires for your car" search apps are completely unaware. Big problem!

I'm leaving on a 1000 mile trip tomorrow - will report back.

How do we get those apps & in-site search tools to wise up??

unfortunately, they'll never wise up until enough customers demand tyre mpg info, or we have rolling resistance specs from the epa

Yep: it was a pretty brutal trip, mix of highway and nasty weekend beach traffic - it normally takes 7-8 hours, actually took 11, then had ten on the way home. But it netted out at 54.5 mpg. Love dem new tires!!

I wonder if the fuel consumption indicated was true to actual fuel consumption?
How many gallons were used for that distance?

4th Gen still exaggerates mpg, as does Gen 3, from what I’ve read here. Our Gen 3’s display is about 7% optimistic, on average. 5th Gen apparently is accurate.

that said, it’s still handy, for comparison, but you need to take it with a grain of salt.
