Is there such a thing? My drive connect subscription just ended and now I just get a glorified ad. I can connect my phone which is fine, but just wondering if there is a standalone adapter with data capability that you just plug in and it works standalone?

Carplay/android auto should work without the drive connect subscription

It does work without any subs.

If you want a stand alone device you can get something like an Ottocast but you would still have to share a wifi connection from your phone so why not just use your phone? The one benefit is that it will play videos however.

Thanks for confirming this - I had been wondering if CarPlay/Android Auto would work without paying for any of Toyota’s connected services subscriptions. I’m soon to be replacing my 2007 Corolla with a 2024 Prius LE and have no prior experience with all this dang technology. I am generally opposed to the idea of paying for subscription services…but seems to be the way things are going these days

Agree-the worst part of the car-a big display that clutters your dash and forward view...for showing what your phone already has (essentially, as the info it shows is mostly useless compared to Gen 4-Gen 4 had wonderful maps showing details of next 3 exits, free service even in Canada (and vice versa if you crossed the border)).The navigation guidance in some respects was better than Google. Now this aspect of the car is a POS!
