06 prius: No warning lights, accessories turn on but won't start

    Hello fellow second gen owners! Help needed and appreciated!
    Long story short she (my prius) was sitting for quite a bit due to her overheating issue (blown head gasket) and not finding an inexpensive mechanic. Finally found one and got her engine swapped but I haven't gotten her to start. I charged her hybrid batteries and got a new 12 volt. The image with the warning lights on the screen was taken a couple days ago and the one with none was tonight. (I've always had all the yellow indications on, she comes with some baggage) Turns out the black terminal that goes on top of the 12v battery was missing the fuse. Now I get no warning lights, no codes (none before either), no ready sign and no speed indication number. For those who might wonder, yes the orange plug on the hybrid battery is in all the way. When I turned her on after inserting the missing fuse her battery showed multiple blue bars, but now just the purple. If I hold my foot on the brake and keep pushing the start button I get cold cranks (hybrid battery clicks) but nothing that starts her up. I will be looking at fuses and taking apart the inverter converter this weekend to see if they put it back together wrong, other than that I am at a loss. If anyone knows anything I would highly appreciate it! I have scoured the internet and have found nothing.

    What scantool are you using? How did you charge the hybrid battery? What was the voltage? Dr Prius would be handy for this type of thing.

    If the bar gauge on the MFD display is to be believed, then the pack voltage may be too low to go ready (and start the engine). Or maybe there's some other HV connection problem that's causing your concerns.

    Hello, I am using the Innova 3100i. I know it isn't specifically a prius scanner but it has always told me what I needed to know, yet even with all the yellow indications I get nothing. I charge the batteries with a small 12v battery charger, the batteries were at like 5 and some change and I charged them to high 7's some at 8. I would assume that if they weren't high enough she would give me something like she has in the past.

    The Innova is a "generic OBD2" scanner. That means it can get codes and some data from the engine computer (maybe ABS as well on some cars - apparently not on a Prius). That can be useful but it is very limited. There are 14 other systems on a Gen2 Prius. Your problem is with one of them.

    Here's a thread that reviews several scantool apps and devices for a smartphone. Some are also limited - but have their uses. Dr Prius for example, is a handy "go to" app to look at HV battery voltages.

    Other apps are more capable and can scan all systems on your car. (FYI, the Autel AP200 has been replaced by the AP2500 or AP2500E, personally I don't know how good the new one is).

    Get whatever codes are in the other systems and we will be able to give better advice.

    that's low for a new battery. check it at the battery, it should be around 12.7 or better, assuming agm.
    if it is, maybe a connection problem, including ground to body.
    if it isn't, it needs a full charge and retesting. you can get a free load test at some auto parts stores.

    When I test the 12v directly it gives me 12.62V. When I put her in self diagnostic mode she shows me 11.8V. I have even tried jumping her and she won't turn over, still no codes, or warning lights on the screen. When I jumped it the self diagnostic mode showed 14.1V. I have seen something online that said the engine ground wire may not be connected properly. But surprisingly I can't find anything on where it's actually supposed to go. But after the mechanics were done and I had a chance to check the job I did have a suspicion since it looked wrong.

    Your problem is not the 12v battery.

    The problem could be many different things since the engine was just replaced. It will be like looking for a needle in a haystack .
