First time I have seen this oil with a 20,000 mile lifespan. What are thoughts on this oil? I know we all dread oil changes. So less oil changes the better, but I guess Toyota would not approve, Thanks for any opinions!
There are a lot of factors that need to be perfect for a car to safety reach 20k before an oil change. It’s probably very rare for drivers to meet all the criterias to reach that milestone per oil change. But if you don’t like doing oil changes before 10k miles, then this oil probably will be your best bet. For oil to last a long time, your driving routine would have to mainly be smooth highway driving for long periods. Stop and go or constant short trips would not work for 10k miles, and definitely a no no for 20k miles
I use the SuperTech equivalent, because it has more friction modifiers. I would never go 20K miles oil changes because of the sensors and materials used it today's' modern engines. Too many plastic and composite components and today's engines run hotter for the CATs to control emissions. I'm doing annual oil changes on my Prime and calculated only 7.5K miles actual, on the ICE. My odometer is reading higher than that but I'm doing 90% of my commute in EV mode; about 12K-13K on the odometer annually. The 7.5K ICE calculations was determined by rounding all my math up, so actual ICE operations could be substantially lower. I use the 20K mile oil as a buffer, safety net. It's only a dollar more than the 10K mile formulation in the 5 quart jugs. When I do change my oil; it's a very light brown - slightly darker than new. On my older ICE cars; that oil would be dark brown or black. I haven't sent the oil out for official testing. FWIW
