I have always had cats in the household and wouldnt want it any other way. They are very independant (much like me) and always around to give me a smile when i need one. Some might say cats wont play fetch like dogs!but mine does.Dogs are fine! but require more attention than cats.Lets here from cat lovers out there!I know they are around!i see pc members with cat pics on here.I even subscribe to a cat magazine (cat fancy).

Cats rule! I grew up as a dog person (my family always had one) and as I matured and became more wise, discovered the errors of my ways.

I'm suggesting that it's the human's that don't like cats that have the problem. It's my theory that they are control freaks that have to have an animal that responds greatly to their commands, whilst cat owner's are more comfortable letting the animal just "be". Knowing fully well that we are loved by these wonderful creatures even if it won't sit upon command.

OK, I'm kidding. I still love dogs, they're just not compatible to my lifestyle. But I do think I'm on to something here...........

I think you're on to something SSimon in that cat owners are more comfortable letting the animal just "be". You have to accept cats as they are. They still give love and affection, but when they want to and that's fine by me.

Both my cats have very distinctive personalities. One of them thinks he's part dog. He loves to fetch little rolled up paper balls. He'll bring it back, drop it at your feet and wait for you to throw it again.

Of course cats come with annoying traits too. Mine are strictly indoor so they're not annoying neighbors or getting into fights. I do put up with hairballs and cat hair and scooping out the litter box, just as I put up with the mess on the toilet from the human males in my house and them thinking farting is so funny. And at least my cat doesn't ask me to pull his paw before he farts.

    Cat inventory:

Trixter (the cat in my avitar) - The Boss Lady. She would climb on my stomach as soon as I got into bed, but would need one particular blanket to lie on. She would let me know in no uncertain terms if I had the wrong blanket on, or if (heaven forbid) I was lying on my side! Died of kidney problems.

Bruno - Would go on walks with my dog Blanca and me. There were these bushes that Blanca would stop and sniff; Bruno once snuck up behind her and pounced on her butt while she was sniffing. Blanca jumped 10 meters. I could swear I saw Bruno laughing. Met unfortunate end.

GrayM: Trixter's sister from same litter. Trixter was a tuxedo cat, but GrayM looks Siamese. Not as adventuresome as Trixter or Bruno, but will let me know when she wants attention. Still with me.

Back home in Sri Lanka, we used to have multiple cats (litters of a stray I fed). Now we only have one called Chooti. She just turned 10.

She is very smart. She knows how to get her way in everything. Now that I am away, she is the baby of the house. She is an outdoor cat (actually back home all cats are outdoor cats). She used to love to go outside when she was young, but for the last few years, she likes to stay in and stare at squirrels and birds, while sitting on a window sill.

Once I gave a bath to our dog Snoopy in our bathroom while I was on vacation. Snoopy hates to bathe and runs away. So I put her in the bathroom and close the door, she has no way to go. So, after bathing the dog, I opened the door and what do I find? Chooti sitting just outside the door listening to all the whining of Snoopy! She was enjoying the misery of the dog!

I pulled her in and bathed her too

I had a dog owner tell me that they don't like cats because they don't want to have to scoop litter.

"Wait a minute," I said, "when I'm scooping litter inside my house, you're walking your dog through the neighborhood in the freezing rain, picking up its poop with your bare hands wrapped in a plastic bag. Who's the crazy one here?"

My wife and I are both very independent. It would only make sense that we would have a pet who is equally independent. Nina might want to play or sleep. She might cuddle with me on the couch or go lay on the bed alone. Whatever.

I do love cats, but it's so fun to yank chains. We currently have the meanest, evil female; good thing she is cute. She is fine with family, as long as everything is done on her terms. You can't force yourself on her without invoking the devil-cat within. On the plus side, she is a great game player.

That would be Mewdonna, also know as "The Little FurBall of HATE", or Mew, or Hate. No Halloween cat has an under-the-breath howl as scary as hers.

There was a hockey player known as "The Little Ball of Hate", but it's also the moniker of a female sportswriter fin D/FW known for her passion opinions (such as A-Rod, whom she despises).

    "Mewdonna's Little Childrens Book" :D

I think a lot of people who aren't cat people simply haven't ever raised a cat. A lot of cats get left alone by themselves for 10 or more hours a day and just get used to not having anyone or anything else around. So a non-cat-lover comes in and tries to pet the cat and it either ignores them or leaves the area.

"Cats don't like being pet. I hate cats."

When you raise them yourselves, they develop a bond with you. When you don't socialize the cat much, it doesn't seem to want to get attention from anyone else, so they may not be overly friendly to outsiders.

My wife and I did something right with our two cats. We got two from a rescue from the same litter, a brother and a sister.

Our cats love attention. In fact, they're almost too needy. You get a cat and you want to be left alone sometimes, you know? :)

both DH and i have had cats for almost as long as we can remember.

our current pair (always in pairs, a single cat destroys everything, more than 2 is too much for us) are a couple of lovable buttheads. nice foot warmers too... ;)

funny enough these 15 pounders are bossed around by a ~130-140 gm bird... i'd call em chickens but that seems so inappropriate...

Currently we have two cats with us! Sneakers(male15) and muffin(female1.5) Both are tiger cats.Muffin is a monster!!partly my fault for playing rough with her.She makes a great foot warmer while im here on the computer  .Sneakers being the old man in the family dosnt really like muffin, constantly hisses and growls at her.For an old cat he sure moves quick when muffin wants to play with him.As i am writing this!just made a paper ball and playing fetch with muffin. She has lots of toys but loves the crumbled paper ball the best.Cats are such a great joy and i also would rather scoop litter than take a walk in the rain
