I just went on Toyotas website to see the MSRP of the touring edition with package 5, but it only gives me the base, or package 6 as an option. Is this a new change? I planned on buying a package 5 touring edition, I am not a fan of leather seats.

Hopefully its just a mistake on Toyotas website...

    Thanks,
    Alex

It appears that the base, #2, and #5 are the Touring packages available here in Colorado (I entered zip code of 80301).

Here in the Portland, OR area you can get 3 or 6, haven't checked packages 1 or 2, but I know you can't get 5.

When buying in November'06, Central Virginia dealers only sold Pkg2 for the Touring model.

Why does Toyota have to make this such a pain? They take away options compared to other regions, deciding who "needs" what. I thought they were making money and selling lots of cars? Why do they have to put in all these limits and make the process more aggravating and disappointing that certain cars are missing features such as daytime running lights, etc.

I looked in both Orlando and NY regions and only got to package 3 with the touring. I want a 6 touring. Anyone know where they're available?

 The previous posts reveal the answer: Different "packages" are available in different regions. Can't imagine what logic makes this a fact, perhaps Toyota goes on previous Prius sales records in the various regions, or possibly what the regional distributers request.

In the 5-state region served by the Houston TX distributer, the Touring Edition 2007 Prius seems available in packages 5 & 6 - was when I traded my 2004 for the 2007. While there were more pkg 5's, I waited about 3 weeks for my pkg 6.

Have you considered buying your Prius in another region, flying and driving it home 0r having it shipped? It has been my experience that Toyota dealers' service departments function independently from their sales functions and accordingly are happy to get your service business [including warranty work for which they're well paid by Toyota] regardless of where you buy your Prius. I have had excellent service by a dealer who did not sell me either my 2004 or 2007 Prius Touring Edition.

well thats too bad. It looks like California does not get any package 5 touring anymore. Does anyone know how I go about finding out which region gets which package, besides typing in different zip codes in the toyota website? Also what kind of taxes will I be paying to buy a car out of state and have it registered here.

    Thanks,
    Alex

Hmmm. I put in San Francisco and was able to see package 5 Touring but no package 6 Touring. Actually, I just picked up my #5 (I'm not a fan of leather seats--I slide around too much) Touring last Friday, so I know you can still get them in CA. To find my preferred color combination, though, they had to pull one from NV (which had just arrived in North America on Jan 1), and there was a slight upcharge (and delay) for that. You might look into having them canvas other dealers. The Tourings are rare, but they are around (and are still trickling into the country). Don't let your dealer(s) tell you that the Tourings aren't being made anymore--several told me that and tried to sell me something they had on the lot!

what did you say to have them ship it from NV, because I was ready to drive to vegas to buy one, but Id rather buy it from california to have the sales tax part of my loan instead of having to write a check to the CA dmv and have my current car once its fixed as a trade in because the dealership will take it easier than someone else who finds out how much work had to be done to repair it only 6 days after I purchased it

I didn't really have to tell them anything other than "I'm looking for a Silver Pine, gray interior, Touring, #5". Several dealers went ahead and only checked everything in-state, but the Sacramento dealership (a several hour drive for me, unfortunately) actually looked at the incoming inventory (while it was still "on the boat") and found one destined for Carson City, NV, and they were able to contact the other dealership and get it. From the mileage, it looks like it was trucked (as normal) to NV and then driven to Sacto. Hope they were varying the speed on the highway during the break-in period! I would have preferred that it get intercepted on the truck, but everything's still under warranty, so no harm, no foul (just an additional wait). It took 9 calendar days to get from port through the NV dealership to the Sacramento one.

I think there was an additional $250 to get it from NV->CA, but after that, it was as if the Sacramento dealership was the only one involved.

Thanks for the info, do you mind me asking around what price they charged you? Because the touring seems to be few and far between, especially package 5, did they refuse to lower the price?

I bought a Subaru in Las Vegas in 2000, and didn't pay any sales tax until I registered it in California. They gave me some kind of temporary transit registration. If you buy a new car out of state, be sure to tell them that it is for California registration, and they should waive the local state tax. Good luck.

I hate buying cars, and at that point, we were already much later than we had expected to be, so I just paid what they told me (~$30.2K, all told). Besides, they had already brought the car from NV, and there weren't any more like it to be had. I keep cars long enough that it's worth MSRP for me to get what I want. I could haggle if it wasn't quite right, but it was everything I had asked for.
