I tried to find some info on the cell phone charger in the Owner's Manual and Navigation Manual but couldn't. I know that if I store my phone down there and have it switched on that it will charge the phone while I am driving. I often drive without my phone and can't really see the tiny light at the switch that shows it is on or off. My question is: Can I just keep it on all the time and not worry about turning it on when the phone is there and off when it is not? Ray
I recently purchased a 2025 Prius XLE/AWD and also wanted to read information on the cell phone charger, but its still (apparently) not in the Owner's Manual and Navigation Manual. Any thoughts?
I went looking for the same info today and found that the 2024 Prius Prime Owners Manual (web search for PRIUS PRIME_OM_OM47F48U as the forum won't (yet) let me post a link) has info on the Qi wireless charging enabled "Side Tray" and explains the meaning of the green and orange / steady or blinking lights that our Prime XLE has; if that helps. Ours seems to be a little quirky about actually charging phones. Now that I've learned what the lights signify and the existence of the small power switch it seems as though turning the switch off, waiting a bit, then on will sometimes convince a properly positioned phone and the charger to reset their logic. The manual does have an extensive list of things that can lead to the charger not accomplishing the goal however. Leaving the charger on all the time and then accidentally having some metallic or magnetic object fall into the side tray seems to me like a reason why leaving it on all the time might not be wise.
The primary effect of the Qi phone charger in the Prime is to heat up your phone. Dribbling a little bit of charge into the phone is incidental.
