Seen these videos previously & 1st thought was it won't be long before litigation starts against those Vehicles using lidar. 2nd thought was Darwin Award winners that will stare into a beam - wanting to see what it looks like compared to what a camera sees. Manufacturers are now responsible to accommodate those who qualify as the lowest denominator.
It was news to me but then I just recently bought: I use it for tire temperature testing to fine tune my wheel alignment and identify heat leaks around my home. For example: Thermal evidence that the rear tires have too much camber. Back it off and both stability and rolling drag should improve. I used a similar technique with an IR sensor to diagnose and correct stability problems with my 2003 Prius. I had not considered LIDAR might risk my $200, thermal sensor. Bob Wilson
