Based on that article: 1st Gen: N/A 2nd Gen: Average J.D. Power Quality and Reliability Rating: 88.3 3rd Gen: 86.8 4th Gen: 82.5 5th Gen: N/A
the problem is, we look at the mechanics and electronics. they look at nhtsa complaints. both are limited in scope. summerizing that prius overall are not toyotas most reliable model is based on what?
Even when the engine does not burn oil I can't get a catalytic converter to last worth a darn. Seems like everything on the turd gen takes a crap. Still more reliable than an American car but not typical reliability for a Toyota
My anecdotal data: Gen1: Bought new, ran it for 220K miles over 20 years and had only $2,500 in non-scheduled maintenance. Two hybrid pumps, 1 radiator. Gave it away in 2023 still running. I think one factory recall. Gen3 (wife's car): Bought new, 11 years old and so far NOTHING has broken, just scheduled maintenance. I think two factory recalls. Still going. Gen5 (2023, 35K miles): 12 volt battery, but I completely drained it with a ham radio tied right to it, so share guilt. As we know here, two factory recalls so far. Jury clearly out still. It had a high bar to live up to. Kinda like my picture, a shot of all 3 cars before a gave away toe Gen1. Will
