Having been a first second and third gen owner DIY and Prius chat are a required. I'm always on the look out for new tech and subscribe to the church of going to full EV is skipping a few critical steps. But he latest entry to EV seems to be the modular Slate EV truck backed in part by Jeff Bezos. Its modular design got me thinking. Not sure slate will make it but would their business plan be the way of the future and……. how long before a Prius chat member (or like minded individuals) develop a hybrid generator that would turn an EV into an extended range hybrid. what I know about the Ev system would scare many knowing that despite being stupid I rebuilt a trac battery so I’m sure there are hurtles I’m missing but what’s to stop converting any Ev to a hybrid with a little generator work?
Primary problem is figuring out how you're going to spoof a charge going into the battery pack while the car is actively using the battery pack. All EVs charge when the vehicle is parked. Maybe with a BMW you could get around that becuase they charge when vehicle is in use. Or perhaps through the regenerative braking circuit? But then how are you going to get all the warning systems to behave when there's amps going into the pack that aren't supposed to be?
