I'm looking for another set of wheels for an LE. Some of the wheels are described as "remanufactured". For a wheel, is this just a euphemism for used? Or is there some implication that it has been damaged and repaired?
I got a remanufactured rim from Rock Auto. It was a used rim, looks to be straight, cleaned up and repainted. If it was say a remanufactured brake caliper, that should be inspected, clean, new gaskets, a little more involved.
Aluminum wheels can be blasted and turned to make round again and then repainted. I would never buy refurb aluminum alloy wheels. They might look pretty after refurb but you can't see the microstructural cracks which will lead to failure. Bent alloy wheels results in cracked alloy wheels which is why they tend to get re-melted instead of refurbed. My motorcycle manual says "do not attempt to repair or use refurbished alloy wheels" which is good advice IMHO.
