The horrors of a simple misfire problem showed up with my 175k miles 2006 Gen2 recently. Like others, my first thought was that my engine had a major problem with the amount of knocking, vibration, etc! I'm grateful for all the articles that showed that the Prius transmission was exacerbating the issue of a simple misfire. With plugs only a year old, replacing first the coils (no change) then the injectors has sorted my problem:cool:

I reckon I need to do an EGR-valve replacement and probably clean the inlet manifold, but that can go on the list...

What really made diagnosis easier was my OBDStar device. This was bought to read/reset/etc codes, etc on my one of my motorbikes (with a specific-make app) so I tried the 'general OBD' app on the Prius. What a result! All codes (with descriptions), live data and code reset/removal. So if anyone out there has and OBDStar they haven't tried on their car yet, give it a go.

Yeah let me know when you find that EGR valve to change there's no cooler either that's probably 09 and up in UK or such. Don't know the brand of scanner in USA we use Toyoda software or companies like Autel have introduced purpose driven units that do what you need for 65 dollars no subs forever .
