Been a while, I'm looking at a traction battery repair/replacement, just poking around see what's available, maybe more active members have some suggestions.... I know there's rebuild/reman options, ranging in price and who knows about longevity.... But I'll consider anything. I saw the new OEM option, most Internet searches found them out west, no shipping, guess I'd call some local dealers Don't know what I can get for individual cells, as in new, are they available, OEM cells. Any suggestions, I can work with whatever options just shopping for components, be it new used or reman, preferably new, be it a pack, replacement cells, OEM or aftermarket, just don't know what's what, what's good?
I'm interested in giving you a summary of options, but in order to help you better please let me know what region in the US you live in or if that doesn't apply what part of the world you live in?
Good point as I came across dealer listings out west, my local dealers don't show nothing, guess I could ask them, but for the record, Detroit, MI. I came across a couple local rebuilders/refurbishers, I have 3 used packs that give me all sorts of gremlins, I wouldn't mind a refurbished pack but I am also considering new, be it OEM after market, kit or whole. There's adds every where hard to tell what what, honestly I'd rather get new OEM they just don't seem to be all that easily available and price is allover the place
how many miles on her, and how long miles/years would you like to keep her? there will be other expensive repairs eventually, if they haven't already been done. will you diy the battery refurb or new install?
It's a It's an 07 with 180k, mostly original, aside than a set of breaks, an inverter water pump, front wheel bearings and some chinesium shocks but all this was done some time ago, it actually has been parked in the back woods for the past 5 years, regardless I'm not concerned with other repairs or diy, I do my own repairs anyway and I have a couple parts cars one with 50k miles, both 05 I believe. We parked it 5 years ago when we bought a new vehicle, it was showing some signs, but we were waiting on taking delivery and didn't bother with it. Just recently I cobbled up a pack out of the 3 I had handy, all computers were bad, wiring harnesses, even found a corroded wire by the inverter under the hood, I seem to have it running for now, and I'm working on getting another used pack togher for a spare. How long to keep it? Who knows as long as it has a driver, I have plenty of used parts on hand, engine burns oil from what I remember and I am getting a knock sensor code, but that may clear up after running it some, probably could use some spark plugs. It's more like a challenge to see how far I can keep it going. Hence I have considered new battery, so far I have been mixing and matching and just when I thought I had something, either it was the battery ECU, or the sensing wires or a bad cell, eventually I got a winning combo in it for now, how long will it hold up this time, who knows it's an 05 pack, 50k, new harness, eBay used computer.
with your experience, it would seem to me that a hobby charger and cell replacement/balancing would be the best way to go. idk where to get cells, but you might find options with some searching
That's basically what I have done so far, I wound up buying an eBay computer, didn't have high hopes since the 3 I had all had various problems, but I got a good one, new sensing wires harness, and a used pack, I have a second one on a balancing change at the moment, but eventually those cells will not cut it anymore they're 20 years old
