I am having electrical problems on my 2nd gen '05. I can't post a link but there is a YouTube short titled "My prius 2 gen wont start." that shows exactly what is happening with my car.

All of the comments on that short say that it is the inverter pump, the 12v battery, or the inverter fuse. I had already tested the battery well before I found that video. I also checked the battery using the diagnostic mode on the car (not sure if did it right).

I checked the fuse and sure enough it was blown, so I replaced the fuse and the car started. However, once that happened the fuse blew again followed by a little bit of smoke coming from under the fuse box. To me, that indicates an issue with that particular circuit.

I know codes are needed so I bought a Bluetooth OBDII scanner today to try and get them, but it can't even find the car. I know that the scanner gets power because it connects to my phone. Even though the car wont start, I am able to put it into accessory mode (I believe this is signified by the green light in the power switch but im still not 100% sure) but I still can't get Dr. Prius or the RS2 app to connect.

I'm asking for second opinions, experience with similar issues, and advice on how to get the scanner to work. I know that 2nd gen inverter pumps are a common issue, but I just want to make sure before I put in the money and effort to change out the pump.

Unplug this connector. That will keep the smoking pump from blowing the next new AM2 fuse you put in.

Then put in a fresh AM2 fuse and drive (easily and gently, because you're without the cooling pump for the electronics) wherever you need to go until you have a replacement for the smoking pump.

After the pump has been replaced, plug the connector back in.
