I hate when people call hornets, "bees."

    Nah.
Bacon and cider - plus a basement entrance.

Yellerjacket traps can really cut down the number of the little nasties - without hurting the more innocent pollinators.

MANY MANY can be home made with a little instruction from the YouTubes.

Yep, see the pix I posted in post #1. I later gave instructions on how to build after someone asked. Very simple and only attracts yellowjackets with an occassional "fly."

At the moment I have a store bought pheromone trap out. Also only trap yellowjackets with occassional flies. In four days, 12 yellowjackets.

Again, early in the season. Ask how many in late August.

have another nest in the celing of the barn overhang. a small opening in the trim, they were going in and out.
tried to spray it last night, but it was hard to see and aim with the flashlight. bees still there today, so i'll have another go tonight.
iwouldn't care, but they are right next to the barn door, and very aggressive when you go in or out.

When they are close like your door, do not take chances. Get rid of them.

Never know. As we age, things change. No real problem being stung at age 40 can change to life-threatening reaction at age 42. Suffocating in 3 minutes, no fun.
Need a headlamp. Come in handy during late night floods, also.

We keep two next to the bed and "cheaper" Energizer/Eveready types in each car -- they are not as robust, but are small and fit easily in whatever compartment we throw them.

Of course, it's a rare couple of months when we don't lose power for a few hours and I don't like falling over dogs in the dark..

PS: I USED TO keep a small waterproof flashlight in my old Tercel, but one night had a flat while alone. Hard to see with my hands full of tire and ended up with the flashlight between my teeth. Bought headlamp for car soon after.

    +1 !!!

    WE are not toddlers.
    - just sayin....
2-year-old in ICU after hitting yellowjacket nest with toy, getting stung over 150 times, family says

    SO...
IF you can believe the CDC or the FAA your chances of getting killed by bees/wasps/hornets are about the same as they are when you board a commercial aircraft.
    HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    (comma!)
Your chances of being very painfully injured are......'perhaps' slightly different.

I keep a 20' spray can in my company car, and I don't have to 'treat it like a smoke detector' because telephone companies are not in the habit of painting the building entrance ceilings like people did in the 1920's. (**)
I deplete them WAAAAAAY before it's time to change the clocks.

    YMMV

    (**WARNING***) Trigger alert!!!

(**) Some believe that painting porch ceilings or awnings a specific shade of blue, sometimes called "haint blue", can help deter wasps from building nests. The idea behind this belief is that the blue color may confuse wasps into thinking the surface is the sky, and therefore unsuitable for nesting.
    NOTE!!!
This is an old Southern tradition - hence the 'haint'....and thus may or may not be supported by '$cience'.....or even real SCIENCE.

    YOUR results WILL vary.

I realized that the bead board is attached to plywood underneath, so they are just using the opening to get to a nest somewhere in the rafters not available to spray directly.
I might try sealing the crack and hope they make an entrance further from the door

    Bees wasps or hornets?

One of the advantages of living in Bastan might....bee that you can get somebody to help you relocate America's favorite invasive species.

    Otherwise?
I might take tha Mamdani approach if they're buzzing around in the attic:

I'm sure that some hit-and-run entomologist will take issue with your conflating 'yellowjackets' with honeybees...or 'bees.'
    At the retail level?
The 'difference' has little distinction - WITH THE EXCEPTION that bees are a lot more docile and they can only sting you once!
Bees are also a non-indigenous invasive species brought to this region by white Europeans - but (some people say.....) that they have made things a little better 'over here.'

    YMMV.

The fogger will not make them happy.
    That's for DANG sure.
Read and follow the instructions carefully!

As far as how much 'pest control' costs in Bastan???
I don't even know how much COFFEE costs there, but I presume it is more than it costs in butt-scratch, Montana!
(WITH profound apologies to the dozens of people who live in 'Big Sky' country!!!)

But hey......you get to live in BASTAN!! -right?

    Bloom where you're planted.

what has me puzzled is that i can see over the ceiling of the overhand from the hay loft, and there is no sign of a nest, nor any buzzing. yet the yellow jackets are constantly going in and out of the crack.
when we had a nest in the house attic, you could hear them buzzing above the ceiling

Depending on what is eating the hay you can probably be a little more liberal with the roach bombs! ;)
    Hay loft in Bastan?
    -who knew????

I don't really like roach bombs - OR use them because all of my insect problems are outside and Dawn dishwashing detergent is like napalm to them! :)
For inside work I have a 60# Boxer.

I've used Maggies' Farm products for my offices.

All I can say is I'm glad I didn't use West Virginia!!!
