OEM Foglight Switch vs Aftermarket

    I recently purchased a set of aftermarket fog lights from Amazon for my gen 2 (see photo of kit below) and read and saw how most everyone is complaining about the aftermarket switches they come with in regards to fitment in the spare slot. So i ran into a gen 2 with the OEM fog light switch which is in the wiper switch assembly so my question is, is there a way to wire up the OEM switch to aftermarket fogs that use that square switch to the OEM switch or would I need to run the specific harness off the OEM fogs for this?

    Anyone do this that can run by me a HOW TO or any ideas if it's even possible. I am not that inclined to read wiring diagrams lol as I get lost most of the time with them but more hands on if that makes sense.

    I've done it on a gen 3, using a Toyota stalk with the fog switch, and the relay and circuit they already built into the fusebox. But it's highly likely the details for gen 2 aren't all the same, so unless someone does come around with your exact answer, reading the diagram might be the fast way.

    Seems like a lot of work and expense to go through to install the crappy OEM style foglights. The OEM foglights have no cutoffs, they put out light everywhere, except where you need it.

    I used the Toyota switch and wiring and grille openings, but Morimoto LED foglights. They're nice.

    Also, being LEDs, allowed me to put just a 3-amp fuse into the pre-existing FOG slot in the fusebox, instead of a 10-amp or whatever the original was supposed to be.

    Wasn't that for a Gen3 though? I don't think Morimoto makes LED foglights for the Gen2.

    A lot of work to install? I had these on on 25 minutes…as for the light output on these aftermarkets, they are decent IMO, the brightness level can be fixed with a set of LED bulbs and the light path is fair as well. I havent been in a prius w/ oem fogs to tell the difference. But in all honestly, they aren't that bad and for $32 shipped from Amazon, I couldn't pass it up. I intend to do of driving through mountainous/hill areas and was thinking of going with the yellow bulbs instead of regular one.

    On thing i like about this aftermarket kit is that you can use the fogs as daylights meaning they can stay on while all other lights are off which I believe you cannot with OEM foglight setups (pls correct me if I am wrong on this).

    Overall happy, ill post pix of the light output and pattern soon.

    I just thought id ask as i would like a. more uniform style in the cabin, the one thing I DON’T like about this aftermarket switch is the ugly bright green color present at all times. Its so 80s lol while all the other cabin lights are white as well as the flimsy fit of the grill cutout but I’’ll wait to find a set of oem covers at the junkyard

    A lot of work, referred to sourcing the OEM stalk with the foglight switch and getting it properly wired.

    This is a sharp cutoff pattern on the Morimoto style foglights with a prism type lens that focuses the beam in a wide, flat pattern. They are LED, no replacement bulbs.

    Yellow vinyl over clear lenses to add contrast, helps see the road surface, especially when the roads are wet.

    Without a good cutoff, you'll be shining glare up at oncoming and drivers in front of you. In real fog, it will glare back at you, decreasing your vision. 20250703_100657.jpg 20250703_100421.jpg

    I've wired my foglights to turn on when the car is in Ready mode, they serve as DRLs during the day and foglights at night. It's wired up to a relay, so they draw power directly from the fusebox.

    Yo! Those fogs look awesome! Unfortunately that’s a gen 3 you have them on and apparently not available for a Gen 2. They have a very nice beam pattern. Anywho, since I see these gen 2’s with fogs at the junk yard by the bunch (except the fogs are cracked 90% of the time) I figured i’d inquire with the PriusPros here to see if it was doable to connect aftermarket fogs to an OEM switch…My Prius is NOT a touring but has every option the touring does minus the leather and fogs.
