Hi I have a 2012 Prius V that I got in 2020. It’s been great, but my oil consumption for my gasoline engine has failed. CarShield demanded a scope of the engine, and they denied the claim. They apparently have a clause about repairing piston rings due to normal wear and tear. So I either have to replace the engine or get a new Prius. The other parts of the car are originals. How long before they need to be replaced? Just wondering if it’ll be more cost effective to replace or buy a newer used Prius. Although 10 years is how old my Prius’s have been before they require an engine replacement.
Depends on how nice the car is, if it’s had a new oem hv battery replacement, a new brake booster and how many smaller things like brakes and tires need replacement. If it’s otherwise nice with a recent hv battery and brake booster you might consider a rebuilt engine shipped from Hybridpit in California (maybe $4k shipped but with the improved rings and pistons) or you could chance a so called low mile JDM engine for $1200. Either way someone needs to install.
Mass Airflow Flow sensor. It's part of the air intake loop into the engine and can get clogged up with oil and dirt.
Oh snap, there's a new 200k miles club just for the wagon V model, which is pretty awesome! It's like double the 100k club, so if you've got one of those, you can show off your super high mileage. Sounds like some people have really decked out their Priuses too, with cool seats and big speakers!
